My one week post-op appointment went well.

Apr 19, 2012

I had my one week post-op appointment today the doctor is pleased with my progress.  I am down 8lb sense my surgery...came down to 320lb   I am now to start with my supplements and vitamins but am supposed to stay on liquids for another week.  I still have quite a bit of pain on my left side but that is normal I guess...there are some deep sutures that feel like they are pulling.  If the pain does not get better in a few weeks they will open the site up under a local and re-suture....worst case.  All in all things are going very well.

On a side note we stopped at Costco and found the Magic Bullet Blender kits on sale for $29.99.  I have been looking at one for a while and at that price I couldn't pass it up.

Home and healing

Apr 15, 2012

Well, I am home and healing up now.  All in all the procedure went well but I do have a difficult time with anesthesia.  My stomach is a little numb to the touch and I only have pain in one incision location.  It feels like the tissue is pulling against the stomach wall causing pain but it is tolerable.  I am getting my liquids in and drinking around 8oz per hour to stay on track.

My hospital stay was good up until the last day of stay...I Had a very difficult time with the nurse not responding to calls or delivering my meds on time.  I called her on a lie in front of her supervisor and she did not respond to any calls the remainder of the day...basically just ignored me.  I ended up having to walk the halls to track her down to get my pain meds 2hr after they were due...twice.  They were supposed to give me pain meds prior to removing my drain and she failed to do so.  Once the drain was removed she just walked out...about five minutes later liquid was pouring out of my drain site and my gound, pants and one piece of gause that she left me was soaked.  I paged her and she failed to respond again.  I finally walked to the nurses station to get a towel and some gause to clean myslef up where she was sitting there with here feet up saying how busy she was...I lost it then.  I actually had to call my doctor to let him know I was not getting any care so he decided to have them kick me home.  On the prep fro the trip home I asked her to call my pharmacy to make sure they could fill my prescription due to the narcotic not being able to be filled.  She came back stating it was all good and they would fill it when I arrived.  Well after the 2hr drive home the pharmacist stated he told the nurse on the phone they absolutely could not fill the script and he called around town and nobody had the med and could not get it for over a week...I hate being lied to.  I will be discussing this level of care with my program director next week...it was just unexcusable.

The day of the surgery my wife decided to go to lunch after I was settled in my room and got in a wreck in my brand new truck...she is fine....for now.  I know she feels worse about the whole thing than I do.

I am home and healing fine, already going stir crazy with cabin fever though...more to come.

My April Fools Day Surprise turns 12 today

Apr 01, 2012

April 1 st is kind of a special day around our house.  Twelve years ago my wife was pregnant with what the doctors said was a boy.  Through the pregnancy and baby shower we received all boy things and were prepared for the arrival of my son.  On April 1, 2000 we headed to the hospital because my wife was having contractions and it was time.  Our family doctor was the same doctor that delivered my brother and I so we knew him well.  He was training a young doctor at the time and he asked if the young doctor could deliver, it was his first time.  The wife and I had no issues and the young doc was very excited.  During the delivery the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck and there were some complications getting the little one to take it's first breaths.  They rushed it away and began working....a few seconds later(seemed like an eternity) we heard screaming.  The young doctor came running over to me and said very enthusiastically "It's a GIRL!!!"  I looked right at him and said "No it's not."  He quickly ran back over to check and yelled "Yep, It's a GIRL"....April fools on us. :)  I had one heck of a time calling all the family and explaining on April Fools day we just had a little girl.  :)  My little girl is 12 years old today and is my little fishing, hunting and geocaching buddy.

I start my liquid diet on Tuesday 4-3-12...my surgery date is set for 04-11-12.  The only hoop left to jump through is a gall bladder ultrasound this Thurdsay.  I am so ready to be healing and working on my post op life.
