Surgeon Testimonial

Grant Searles, M.D.
At first I didn't even consider having surgery in Alaska. I found out that Dr Searles did bariatric surgery so I called his office and explained my situation. I was able to get into see him in about 1-2 days. I ran around town getting lab and psych evalution for his appointment. Dr Searles said he should be able to do surgery around the same time as I was scheduled (less than 3 weeks). I walked out of his clinic with all my paperwork for the pulmonary function, EKG, upper GI, chest xray and blood work. His office worked on getting my approval switched to Anchorage. It took about 2 days for that!!!! I got all my appointments completed and had surgery 3 weeks to the date after meeting Dr Searles. He doesn't have any aftercare program but I did learn alot from the nutrionist and on this web site. I think if you do your research you will be fine with him.

OK here it goes, I live in Anchorage, AK. I have lived in Alaska since 92. I weighed 200 and figured I was fat so over the next few years the weight just kept creeping up. I have considered WLS for a few years now but never investigated it. So I was actually amazed when I finally started this whole process I was approved first time around.

3 month check up
on July 25, 2008 11:02 am
I am down about 83lbs and feeling great.

I have quit my job and taken a new one that will be alot less stress! I start next week. I will also be doing a part time job but also less stress! Hey did I happen to mention that my old job had alot of stress? Mostly from management. It's hard to work when you are being micromanaged all the time.

I have skipped out on exercise this week, just with orientation and such I haven't made it. But my excuse is once back into a routine I will start going again.

All my lab results came back great, no longer on high blood pressure or diabetes meds. Yeah!

My husband commented yesterday that he can hardly recognize me! HAHA new wife for him. I am at wedding weight now so I put on my wedding dress and it fit!

10 weeks
on July 3, 2008 12:56 pm
Wow I can't believe it's been 10 weeks. I am down 75 lbs. I feel great, still doing water aerobics and started weight training. I have so much energy.

I went on a couple of job interviews and was amazed how valved I am. I got offered a new job and accepted the offer. I am very excited about this.

The family is going camping next week. I am amazed how little I am worried about food. Camping trips before were all about food.

65lbs gone!
on June 17, 2008 9:50 pm
It's hard to believe that I have lost more since surgery then I did before. 30/35. I feel wonderful. I have lots of energy. I have been doing water aerobics since 2 weeks out. I did start to do circuit weight training this week. My goal is to do it on mon/wed/fri.

My husband goes for his doctor's appointment for the surgeon tomorrow. I wish him luck.

Cleaned out closet!
on June 3, 2008 2:53 am
On my day off yesterday I cleaned out my closet, got rid of all size 22 pants. This means most of my work pants. I went to old navy and bought a pair of capris off the clearance rack. I got home thinking they wouldn't fit but they did! Yeah I was so happy.

I ordered a bunch of food products from bariatricchoice.com lots of crunch stuff preztels, chips and stuff like that. Will be fun to find out what is good.
