What do I eat in a typical day?
posted on 12/20/08 6:25 am
I get asked this question ALOT...so here it is...this is a pretty average day...I am currently 11 months post-op and have been successfully maintaining my weight.  My nutritionist asked me to start eating more and add in healthy carbs, so far it's worked great.  In the beginning I ate similarly (minus the carbs) and lost very quickly (230 lbs in 9 months).  So on my current routine, I usually end up around 2000 calories per day, 60 to 70 grams of fat, and 150 to 200 grams of protein...I also drink  100+ ounces of liquids per day...I do have a strong appetite and can usually eat 8-12 oz at a sitting depending on what type of food it is. In order to stay satisfied I tend to eat every 2-3 hours but always make the right choices in what I eat. Please note that I'm a tall male (6'6", 216 lbs) so the # of calories, etc that you need to eat will probably differ...please consult your nutritionist.  I also recommend tracking what you eat on a website like www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate

For Breakfast I eat 1/2 cup Oatmeal mixed w/ 1 tbsp peanut butter and 1 scoop protein powder. I also have the same thing for my 4PM snack. I also snack on other things like dry roasted edamame, soy nuts, peanuts, mixed nuts, baby carrots, cheese & whole grain crackers, home-made pizza on a low carb wrap, etc.  For lunch I typically eat 4-6 ounces of fish or poultry and a side of veggies.  Dinner is also about 4-6 ounces of meat and a side of veggies. I also treat myself to desset, my favorite is 1/2 cup Edy's NSA Butter pecan with a bit of whipped cream, a drizzle of sugar-free caramel and a banana on the side....or maybe a sugar-free oatmeal cookied with peanut butter spread on top.  I get creative and never feel like I'm depriving myself.
