Surgeon Testimonial

Drake Bellanger, M.D.
Dr. Bellanger is a great choice for a surgeon. He is approachable and friendly and very concerned with his patients comfort. He answered all of my questions and understood all of my hesitations. He was clear in explaining all the risks and recommending a surgery for me. He is a skilled surgeon with a great bedside manner. His staff is friendly and knowledeable. Overall, I've had a great experience and would recommend him to anyone.

Second Follow Up
on June 13, 2007 7:37 pm
So I went to my second follow up appointment and found out that my scale is wrong .  So I've lost a total of 25 pounds and not 30.  But that's nothing to sneeze at.  At all.  So I still think I'm doing good.  I start eating soft food tomorrow.  Yays.  I'm excited to see what I'm gonna be able to hold down.  We'll see how it goes.

Weigh-In
on June 11, 2007 11:51 am
I weighed today because curiosity got the best of me.  I'm not 100% sure how accurate my scales at home are but to my knowledge it's accurate within 3 or 4 pounds.  According to my scale I've lost another 13 pounds!  That means I've lost a total of 30!  I can't believe it.

I can't believe this but I seriously almost forgot to post this.  I went for my follow up appointment and I've already lost 17.5 pounds.

Day 3 After Surgery
on June 2, 2007 7:36 pm
Well, it's my third day home from the surgery and everything is going really well.  The surgery went well with no complications.  I was up later that afternoon walking around and the pain was minimal.  They sent me home the next day.  Since I've been home things have only continued to improve.  The New Whey Protein that I've been drinking taste kind of nasty but luckily I only have to drink one ounce three times a day.  Next week I get to move on to creamy liquids.  I'm excited about that.

The only problem I've had is some of my incision sites are oozing a little blood.  We called and the doctor said that it was completely normal and as long as they didn't show any signs of infection I was fine.  I just can't wait until my follow-up appointment with him next week to find out how I'm doing and how much I lost.

My Story

I have been overweight since I was 6 years old. I have never known what it feels like to be at a healthy weight as an adult. I tried. Lord, knows I tried. I tried everything: Weight Watchers, pills, calorie counting, and every fad you can name. They all worked for a while and then failed miserably. I gained all the weight back and then some. When I reached 400+ pounds I knew I had to do something. My mother had a gastric bypass in 2000. Though it eventually proved successful, she had a lot of complications and almost died. Because of this I was hesitant to have surgery. But I realized that the life I was living was not any kind of life anyway. My weight has stopped me from doing all the things I really wanted to do with my life. I met with Dr. Bellanger in January for a consultation and decided on the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I had my surgery 3 days ago on May 30th, 2007. So far, so good. I'm excited about what lies ahead.
