Surgeon Testimonial

Edward Felix, M.D. (COE)
Dr. Felix is confident and VERY serious about what he does. He emphasizes the risks and the importance of following ALL instructions. You can tell that he cares about his patients for several reasons 1) Because he truly cares. 2) Because they'll send him more people/referrals lol. rnrnHe's funny too....rnrnHe did an awesome job on my surgery, and my scars are tiny and will blend in perfectly with my old stretch marks LOL!rnrnThe anesthesiologist, Dr. Herbert (?) at Clovis Community deserves some major kudos too! This is the first time after a surgery that I didn't experience 1 bit of nausea! It's ALWAYS been a problem and this time I had ZERO! THANK YOU!!!

My second Grandson was born - 2 months premature
on June 21, 2008 9:58 pm
Long story, but it was very scary. To cut it short, had it not been for an outstanding OB doctor who specializes in high risk deliveries and a team of respiratory therapists, neonatologists, nurses, etc., the baby would not have made it. When he was born he was limp, gray and not breathing. They had to put a breathing tube in at first, but he's since been taken off that and put on a little oxygen through his nose. He's on IV nutrition too and they started feeding him through a tube today....so far so good.

Dimitri Andrew was born at 31 weeks, 6 days. He was 3 lbs, 13 oz and 16 inches long...look how beautiful he is:

It's been a year....
on April 26, 2008 10:34 am
Well it's been a year since my banding as of today and I didn't quite meet my short term goal of losing enough to where I weighed less than 200 lbs, but I was CLOSE! This morning I weigh 200.8. I can take that....

It's been a long, hard road. I still struggle with the emotional component of eating, but thankfully the band keeps me in check somewhat. :)

I started my journey looking into getting the band January 2007. At that time I weighed 270 lbs. Over the next few months I lost a little weight on my own, in preparation of getting the band. I didn't have to do a liquid diet except for the day before my surgery, or I would have lost more beforehand, but what I did lose, I lost by eating right.

The day of my surgery I weighed 253.8, so technically since my surgery I've lost 53 lbs, but since the start of all of this I've lost 69.2 lbs! Doesn't seem like much in seeing the numbers, but it sure FEELS like a lot! I feel so much better...and I know that I look better too. I'm not going to get complacent here though, I'm still trudging forward! My next short term goal will be 175 lbs. Wish me luck! :)

It feels good though because my daughter told me this morning that my ex husbands wife was saying how good I'm looking and that I look better than I did when she met me. My ex hubby says "I haven't seen her in a while, so I don't know how good she looks". His wife goes on to say to him "You don't need to see her now" LMAO! My daughter said she was cracking up. His wife and I are friends so I'm sure she was kidding but it sure makes me feel good! :)

Happy BANDiversary to me!!!!!!

Slow, slow, slow...
on March 24, 2008 6:13 pm
Haven't lost anything in the past 2 months....all the sudden I feel like a junk food junkie. That's ok, on April 4th I'm going in for another fill and I'll get my butt back on track.

We're in the middle of buying a house, dealing with 2 pregnant daughters. My life has been so busy and full of things to do, you'd think I wouldn't have time to eat...well I DO, I just don't have time to cook! LOL So we've been eating out a lot, which is why I'm stuck at 206 I'm sure.

I posted some recent pics...

Hope everyone else is doing well! I'll post again when I start losing :)

My Story

Well today is February 19, 2007. I'm starting to think pretty seriously about the Lap Band surgery. I've struggled all of my life with my weight, but I've always seemed to keep the fat at bay. After the birth of my second child (18 yrs ago), I lost that battle. I've been fat since with my highest weight being about 268 lbs. I've tried many things to lose weight. Weight Watchers (which I'm on right now - again, 3rd time I believe), trying to eat sensibly, over the counter diet pills years ago, going to the gym, etc. Nothing worked because to be honest, it hurts to exercise because I'm so darn fat. I'm always hungry and allow myself to overeat.

I have a pretty good support system, although my hubby is a little skeptical about the surgery because he feels that if you don't have enough will power to not eat BEFORE the surgery, you won't keep it off after the surgery. I disagree 100%. If I could just lose the weight, knowing that if I eat the wrong things or too much I'd get sick or feel terrible, that would dissuade me from eating those things to begin with. Then if I could just lose some, maybe my joints wouldn't hurt so bad and I could exercise more...? Just a thought.

Anyway, I live in Fresno and I think I may go to the seminar that Dr. Felix puts on just to check it out. A coworker had it done a year ago and her hubby had it a few months ago. They've both done great! Maybe if I do it and do well my hubby will think about it as well.

Currently I weigh about 266 lbs and my goal weight is 145. Wish me luck!

** Update: Today is 11/4/2007 and I'm SO glad that I had the lapband!!! I'm down to 212 lbs this year with a total loss of 54 lbs so far, and I feel great! I still have 67 lbs to lose but it didn't come on overnight, so I'm not going to lose it overnight. I've been exercising each day, something I never thought I'd be doing, and I ENJOY it!!!
