Surgeon Testimonial

Gerald Kirshenbaum
I have been very happy with my decision to use Dr K as my surgeon! His staff is WONDERFUL and he is EXTREMELY skilled. Over 10,000 laparoscopic procedures! He is very warm and friendly, and you can tell he really cares. His great sense of humor is icing on the cake! His self pay price is unbeatable in the US at just $9950.

I was very happy with my surgery experience... no complications.

I wish he was closer so I could continue follow-up care with him. I am so thankful his office staff is always VERY helpful via phone, and quickly responds to any email inquiries I have!

I did feel like the phone consult with the nutritionist was short and not overly helpful. I had done tons of research on my own though, so I knew what to expect.

I would go to Dr K again in a heartbeat. He is simply the most wonderful surgeon ever. :) I am biased of course.

Thursday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench! ~JudyAnne~

302

I bounced back up a bit. I am not surprised. I expected a bit of a bounce back after the huge drop these last 2 weeks.

It's all good. Not letting it get me down. Next week it will be gone again!

gallbladder is GONE
on August 17, 2008 3:32 pm
I survived my surgery! Oh my did this one hurt... A LOT... more than the band. I didn't even have to take pain meds last time... I was grocery shopping and cooking the next day. This time... OYE... I was counting down the hours until I could take vicodin again. I had A LOT of pain. I could not even wipe when I went to the bathroom! lol! Argh. I know... TMI... TMI. Sooo frustrating to only be able to lay on my back for days on end.

Today is the FIRST day I have felt well enough to sit up and go on the computer. Unfortunately Sophie ate my laptop cord so my laptop has been indisposed all week! Lucky for her she did it when I was high on vicodin so I could only muster a muffled whimpered cry before passing back out. ha ha. Bad puppy.

I am feeling excellent today. I even managed a short walk with Sophie today. My goals went out the window. Don't know how I thought I was going to manage walks and strength training while recovering from surgery. Not sure if Dr K is just that much more gentle inside... or if having something cut out is just that much more painful then having something clamped on. hehe.

My follow-up with Dr Monash is on Wednesday. Hopefully he will give me the go ahead to go back to work. Don't see why not since all I do is sit on my tush all day. =)

I weighed in today at 302 and am soooo ecstatic! I have lost all the bloaty IV weight from surgery and then some. Probably helped that I was drugged up and not eating all week. We will see if it holds for tomorrows weigh in!

Only 3 more to go until TWOterville!

307

I lost the freaking SIX pounds that have been haunting me all week. Whether or not it was water weight from the IV's I have no clue. Don't care anymore! lol

I have been doing a labor day challenge with some band buddies on LBT and my weigh=ins are on Mondays. As of this morning I am down SEVEN pounds from last Monday. Woot!

Back on the loosing track. Total lost so far... 77!! =)

bad day
on August 6, 2008 9:45 pm

I am having a BAD day. I cannot stop eating. *sigh* I think my restriction is wearing off. I had oatmeal for breakfast along with 2 Reese’s PB cups (I know.. bad bad)... then like 3 hours later I had a Lean Cuisine and TWO granola bars... ack! Then for dinner I had a protein bar and around 10 meatballs.

Ok typing it out doesn't look as awful as it felt. But I feel like a pig. The oatmeal, LC, PB cups and granola bars were all in a 3 hour period! Totally felt like I was binging. Yes... not binging as bad as I would have pre-band, but totally the same behavior. Eating when I wasn't hungry. *sigh*

Ugh. I just need to chill. I am still up the 6 pounds that I gained freaking overnight from what I thought was IV fluid, but is obviously not. I think that has me kind of depressed. Plus I got a real shitty haircut last night that is majorly bumming me out.

pesky gallbladder
on August 4, 2008 9:52 pm

I was hoping I would make it without another attack before surgery... well I was not so lucky. Last night I was working a short 4 hour block of overtime; I only had an hour to go when I felt it start. I tried to hang in there but realized quickly it was going to be another bad one.

I called my boss to see if I could leave early since my relief would be in within the hour. Unfortunately I could not leave my partner solo so I had to wait for her to come in and relieve me.

By the time my boss got there I was nauseous, sweating like crazy, and could barely stand up. There was no way I was going to be able to drive home. At this point my best option was to go to the ER for some IV pain medication.

Talk about embarrassing! I think my boss was kind of freaked out by my appearance so she had one of the officers take me to the ER in the back of the squad. Oye. The ER nurse thought I was a prisoner at first. How fun.

When I finally got seen by the ER Dr he checked to make sure I didn't have an infection. If I did, he said they would have to take it out right then. Thankfully I didn't! =) They gave me some morphine and sent me on my way.

*crossing my fingers* that was the LAST freaking attack I will have to deal with!

Oh and to top it all off... I freaking gained SIX pounds overnight! I am hoping and praying that it is all fluid from the two IV bags they pumped into me at the ER. Please oh please may it be that.

My Story

Well, same ole story here. Fat my whole life. I had success back in 2005 with diet and exercise. I also had a personal trainer and a dietitian that I worked with on a regular basis. I went from 368 to 318. I was feeling excellent and very excited about my loss. I decided I didn't need the surgery anymore. What a mistake!

When I started planning a cross country move the next year, my diet fell to the wayside. It took me about 2 years to put all the weight back on, but it didn't stop there. I saw a number on the scale I thought I would NEVER see... 384. That was just too damn close to 400 for my comfort. I immediately started researching LapBand docters again and scheduled my surgery with Dr Kirshenbaum.
