Surgeon Testimonial

Gerald A. Cahill M.D.
The first time I met Cahill was close to 18 months ago. It was Tony who made it all happen for me. Insurance was denied and he did not give up. Cahill ran tests and documented his findings. Tony along with my attorney managed to get it all together. Through the months of waiting and questioning my next move he was right there every time I called. He always had the time to update me and keep me in the loop as to what was happening. It was worth the wait. I am scheduled for Surgery September 25, 2008. Dr. Cahill upon acceptance of my insurance attended to me as if no time had lapsed. Truly a heartfelt interest in my life changing descision. Donna at the front desk is remarkable. She is kind and knowedgable and just works so hard to have everything perfect for you. Tony who is the coordinator and the aftercare consultant is just a remarkable person. He really knows his stuff. I had a class with him last Friday. All my questions are answered, all my fears are gone. I know my risks, I know just what I need to do before and after and it is also all in writing. I know what is required of me, and, I know that I am in the best hands that I could possibly be in. As far as the hospital, Little Company of Mary, I have never been so impressed. There was not one issue for all of the presurgical testing. Everyone was so nice and helpful. I am truly blessed to have found this surgeon and his staff. I have no regrets. Wish me luck. I will keep eveyone posted.

My Story

I had gastric bypass surgery in August of 2001.  I lost weight but never really felt real restricted.  As time went by I found that I was never full.  I developed Diabetes, the weight came back and I had Chronic Gastrio Esophogus Reflux Disease (GERD).  I saw the original doctor Rosen a year and a half after surgery.  They put me on a diet.  Diets don't work for me.  I wouldn't be where I am if they did.  Anyway, after a few years I decided to get checked out by another surgeon that specializes in Bariatrics.  I saw Constantine Franzities.  We applied for insurance to cover it but it was an exclusion at that time.  Absolutely did not cover.  He had told me that he could get insurance to cover part of it but I would be responsible for the rest.  I saved up money for about a year and went back hopeful to the revision.  After a year he didn't know who I was, and claimed he never said that he would do anything like that.  Devistated I gave up for a while.  Then a friend had the band by Dr. Cahill.  She loved him and he was really close to home.  I decided to make an appointment and try one more time.  Dr. Cahill examined me and ran a huge amount of tests.  He asked me for all of my records from the surgery and all of the follow up tests and records.  It took some time but I did manage to get them all.  Dr. Cahills findings were remarkable.  He found that the day after my surgery, the pouch was measured and was 10 times larger than a normal pouch should be after surgery, hence the surgery was not effective and my medical problems all came back.  I was under a new tier on insurance at that time and a request was submitted for the revision but it was denied.  I had to wait about 2 weeks to find out and it was denied.  I gave up again.  Then I decided that it wasn't right to have a statement from a surgeon saying that the first procedure was not accurate and it still being medically neccessary.  So I called my attorney to see what he thought.  I sent all of the documentation to him and he wrote the appeal letter.  Now almost 18 months later I am having my surgery in 5 days.  This is only the beginning of my story
