7 weeks post-op
on April 11, 2012 6:07 am
Things are going pretty good, had my 6 week post-op last Thursday and I am down about 80lbs since Feb 10th. Happy about that, but still a long ways to go. I am eat pretty much whatever I want now, but I need to get at least 90 grams of protein a day in which has been a struggle since I get full so quickly. I do my best each day and hit that goal probably about half of the time.  I am going to keep working at it though, because I know how important that is.

I have been hit the gym a few times a week and still training for a 5k next month. Not sure I am going to be ready, but I keep working at it.

I will be posting some pictures in a few days, some pre-op and some just taken this last weekend. Not a huge change, but I can see it.

Been a while since I last posted...

Can't believe I am heading to 5 weeks post surgery. The past 5 weeks have been quite a bit more challenging than I had anticipated. The actual surgery wounds have not given me much issue at all. The problems I have been dealing with is not being able to eat....

I know that seems like a duh statement and that was the whole point of the surgery, but when you have been a binge eater, emotional eater, etc. There is nothing that can prepare you for that being taken away. There is definitely a greiving process I have been going through regarding it and feel like I am now in the acceptance stage.

I did get sick a week ago and was running a fever of 102 degrees for about 3 days which really sucked, but it did not seem to be surgery related, just a virus of some kind. I am down about 70lbs since February 10th, which is very nice, but still have a long ways to go. I have also still been running, which I feel pretty good about.

My 6 week post-op appts is next week, I will be meeting with the exercise guy, nutritionist, and nurse I believe...

3 week surgevisary......
on March 15, 2012 12:29 pm
Well... its been 3 weeks since my surgery and it is quite the ride. I am struggling to get all my protein in because everything upsets my stomach. Hopefully, that will die down in a few weeks. I do manage on getting at least 70 or 80 in everyday, which is on the low end of what I really need to do.

Started running this week, I have decided to do a 5K in May, 10k at the end of June and a half marathon Labor Day weekend.  That is going pretty good, except since I am not getting too many calories in, it is very draining on me.

I am down about 60lbs total since Feb 10th, my 2 week post-op appt, so I am happy about that, however, it is a very bittersweet happiness since I have so much more to go and I was at this weight last year, so I really feel like I am just starting my journey now. I was 407 on Feb 10th, however, I never accepted it and just lied to myself that I was really more like 350.

2 week surgevisary......
on March 8, 2012 11:17 am
I am definitely in much better condition today than I was 2 weeks ago...lol. Can't believe it has been 2 weeks already!!  I had  my 2 week post-op appt yesterday and met with the surgeon and dietician and everything went great. I am finally able to eat some normal foods!!!

There are a few restrictions that they want me to wait another 2 weeks for, but quite a bit has opened up. Water and Protein is the name of the game. I have to make sure to get at least 90 grams of protein in a day, preferably 120 grams or more.  I prefer to go about my protein in a more plant based way than animal based, but it is actually very easy to find great protein rich plant sources and there is pretty much no limit to that right now. tofu, tempeh, pea protein powder, veggie protein powders...

I did grab a case of Isopure and a bag of unflavored whey protein to add to soups and such. I had a bowl of high protein kashi cereal this morning with some light soy milk.

The wierdest part for me is serving size... I used to laugh at food labels that said one serving is a half cup or 8 ounces.... Now I look at that and think DANG I am going to be stuffed...lol

Food doesn't fit anymore...
on March 6, 2012 9:55 am
This Thursday will be my 2 week post op surgevisary and I have very mixed emotions. Physically I am doing great, I am down nearly 50lbs since February 10th, which sounds awesome, but when you have 200 to lose initially, I might as well gotten a haircut.

Physically, I am doing great, I meet with the surgeon for my 2 week post-op tomorrow. Will be going back to work soon, but I will be honest, I am a bit of a rollercoaster emotionally....

I remember when I made the final decision that I was going to get this surgery. I was at Target around Halloween last year and I walked past the coolest winter leather jacket and I stopped and looked at it for about 10 min, knowing full well, it wouldn't fit me. They had the coat up to size 2XL, but I was a 4XLT - 5XLT. So no coat for me... I immediately got depressed and angry and was fed up with it all and decided, I was getting this surgery or die trying and I did it, not a swift or easy journey, but I did it and I sit here at almost 2 weeks post-op, thinking about how even though that Jacket wouldn't fit me back then... food would.

Now food doesn't fit me, I feel depressed now, food has always fit me, for as long as I can remember. I will be honest in that it is a real challenge sometimes.... This is the hardest part so far I think for me.... the jacket still would not fit me today and now food doesn't either.....

I know it is a matter of time and by next Halloween I will be buying that jacket, but I am not going to lie and say right now doesn't suck...because it does!!
