Surgeon Testimonial

Robert Wetherille, M.D.
I really like Dr. Wetherille. He's a straight shooter. He was very businesslike and professional. The nurses there are fantastic and have been very helpful both pre and post op.

Al, Have the Greatest Ever Tomorrow!! It’s good to see more guys out here on Obesity Help. We make up a small minority of the people having Weight Loss Surgery, but tend to lose down quicker and with fewer hassles than the women due to Male Physiology. Drop back by the "Men's Message Board to let the Guys know how you are doing! I’m just dropping by to let you know that there’s a huge crowd of strangers out here pulling for you and holding you in our prayers. May you have a famously successful surgery and a record-breaking recovery! Be nice to the nurses, Enjoy the drugs when you can, and most importantly, hurry home and start walking away from those pounds and into a new Life! Best Wishes-

Welcome to my page.  I have always been someone who wears my emotions on my sleeve.  I intend to do the same thing on this page.  Don't be afraid to let me know what you are thinking.  Supporting someone doesn't mean always telling them what you think they want to hear.

Always remember - A bad day of golf is better than a good day of many other things!!

Feeling Good
on March 30, 2007 8:14 am
I'm now a little over 2 weeks out and doing very well.  I have had no complications.  I'm down 33 pounds and even played basketball and floor hockey this week.  Some people have noticed the weight loss and I either tell them or not what I did, depending on my mood and their curiosity.  I still look at some foods and really want to eat them, but know that I can't.  I'm worried how I'll do when I'm able to eat non mushy foods?  I really think it's psychological, but it's been a 40 year habit that needs to be adjusted.

I was able to come home 2 days after the surgery.  I was quite nauseas in the hospital and figureed that was a combination of the anesthesia and the fact that I wasn't sipping slowly enough.  Once I got home, things have gone pretty well.  The clear liquids have gone down well and I've been able to walk consistently.  The surgery itself was a lot to handle.  I'm truly not sure if I would have done it, had I seen and felt myself in the 2-3 days of recovery.  Time will tell.

Preop diet
on March 12, 2007 8:31 am
I started my journey last Monday with a liquid preop diet.  I went out with a bang on Sunday night with a big salad, a T-bone steak, and fries.  The guys on the board said it's very normal and that most likely I'll still be able to have the steak again sometime, just not as much at one time.  The week went pretty well.  I only cheated one day, but I'm not beating myself up over it.  It happened and I'm moving on.  My surgery is coming up on Wednesday and I'm a little nervous.  I've never had any surgeries, other than a couple toe surgeries, but I was never put under.  My wife has been very supportive and even has done the liquid diet with me!!  More later.....

My Story

I am a 41 year old male. I have been morbidly obsese since age 5. I am married with 2 wonderful children. I have type 2 diabetes and have tried all sorts of diets and lifestyle changes and nothing has ever worked. I want to be around for my family and enjoy life in my later years.

I am a high school teacher of students with emotional and behavioral disorders. I love sports, both to watch and to participate.

I am very concerned about my eating habits after having surgery. From what other people are saying, the cravings for food just don't seem to be as bad afterward. I welcome any and all advice.
