Hi Amanda, I was thinking about you and your surgery day as I was walking in to Fair Oaks Hospital this morning. You know, giving blood to the vampires for some labs. Anyway, I wish you the best and hope everything goes textbook. Hope you're home soonest.

5 Days post op...Memories from the OR and update
on December 19, 2007 4:37 pm
Well I had my laproscopic RNY on 12-14 at fairfax hospital. I can't believe all the time has gone by so fast.  All the tears, anxiety and dr's appointments are so worth it.

The morning of my surgery I arrived at the hospital at 630 a.m. and my mom *who btw had RNY 7 years ago* came flying around the corner snapping photos like the paparrazi...

After I signed in we waited and chatted (they give you buzzers now!) that your family keeps and thats how the dr's keep in touch throughout the process. Neat huh?

Well we buzzed and away we went to preop, stripped and gowned in the O SO stylish gowns. The nurses were so fun and light hearted I wasnt nervous at all, just a little anxious.

Waking up in post op I felt like a race track had been installed in my body it was burning all over my right side up and lower body but not in the middle... I  managed to tell the nurse of this sensation and they drugged me... ahh.... then the next thing I remember is waking up in my hospital room and talking to the lady next to me.  Then my DH came in  along with mom... slept, walked alittle, but got nauseas.. back to sleep, friends Rahshia and Neil came by and then off to sleep I went.  DH Left me his IPOD which was a GOD SEND. They were in every hour or 4 to get vitals... it was an interesting night.

Saturday I woke up to them brining me food.. BAH! What sat before me was a full jello cup, chicken broth, tea and sweetner.  I couldn't move real well and DH and mom were no where in site... so I wiggled and managed to move things around.. this was when the Nurse from slow city was on board.. it took me three times trying to get some help... she was awful. Everyone else was so responsive.

DH and Mom get there and so does a dear friend Liz...  Day goes by with some naps and giggles and removals of all the iv's and stuff.  I got release around 2 and was home by 4 and asleep! YAY!

Ive been doing ok with liquids and stuff I am very luck.

I had a minor episode yesterday as I ate too fast.. woah clammy and nausea... eek!

I never knew that Chicken Broth and cream of mushroom would overnight become GOURMET!!!

Ive moved on from Clear liquids to full liquids.. yumm o!

I get to move to pureed foods on Friday and the applesauce is calling my name!!!

Today I finally went in for my post op appt... Ive lost 5 pounds! Which is 3 % of my body weight! I can't believe it.

OMG 1 WEEK...
on December 6, 2007 12:25 pm

Im at one week to surgery.... Im very excited, very anxious and nervous too.  I had my first freak otu session and melt down and was overhwelmed with stress of work, surgery and life post op.  Thanks to my ladies on the VA Board they picked me up and all is well after some virtual hugs and a good nights rest.

I am starting to see that food is a fuel not a fix for emotions. I am learning to talk more with my DH about things I am feeling and embracing the things I can not change (Serenity Prayer). As much as I hate scheduling things I am learning to schedule time at work to get things done, which results in less stress at home and I am accomplishing so much...actually being consistent with excercize... and have fallen in love with Water Aerobics. I will miss it while I am recovering.

Deep Breaths each day, crossing things off... and taking one step one day at a time... Looking forward to breaking free and out of this burden I call a fat suit that has been with me whole life.  Saying good by to my emotional eater beater friend inside and embracing my RNY tool to dig out the strong, beautiful and confident me!

Up to Date....
on August 5, 2007 6:53 pm
Well on June 17th about 1 year after my original session, I went back to an information session and started the journey for my WLS.  I've met with the dietician and the PA.  I am experiencing a multitude of emotions from happy to sad to anxious to fear .... The good thing is I know this is all par for the course.  I also have my mother who had an open RNY about 6 years ago as a huge support system.  My DH is being nothing but wonderful and I am hopeing this all works out.  I have to meet with a nutritionist for 3 months and the end of September I can submit to insurance, so Im awaiting that date!  In the meantime I am trying to take on new habits and in grain new good ones! I am trying the protien drinks and doing lots of reading on reasearch.  I am torn between the RNY and Lap Band.  Although I know in my heart of hearts the RNY will be the way I go as it will be best given my eating habits.

Stay tuned, I"ll post more as I journey down this path.
