Surgeon Testimonial

C. Kenneth Mitchell, Jr.
I researched bariatric surgeons for 1-2 years. I waited six months to go to various seminars and a year to pick my surgery and surgeon. rnDr. Mitchell and his staff are amazing people who make you believe in yourself and your ability to conquer that which has conquered you: your weight! I would not have my surgery with any other surgeon and I recommend Dr. Mitchell because of the following reasons:rnYou are not a number or a new car, you are a personrnYou are his patient for life- and he takes that to heart. Some people may feel that they outgrow the need for follow up however, this is a big surgery. You have to make a long term commitment.rnWonderful bedside manner and competence noted to be among the best in the country... who could ask for more?

My Story

I've been overweight as long as I can remember.  I was the chubby little girl in third grade and then I thinned out a little in high school but some medical issues and stress brought it all right back.  I continued to pack on the pounds during my 20's as I battled a tumor on my spine, stress with my family, and depression.  I tried dieting, weight loss medication like phenteramine, and increased activity.  I joined curves once and a gym once.  Everytime I started I'd start out okay but as soon as I stopped the weight came back and brought friends.
I started examining my need for health- I watched my family struggle with health and I thought: I need to get healthy now.   I can't wait until I'm as sick as they are.  I started talking to people about surgery and started looking at sites online.  I started going to informational sessions and researching into surgeon's numbers.  Ultimately I found Pinehurst Surgical and Dr. Kenneth Mitchell.  He was frank and upfront: we would fight the weight together but I had to be 'all in the game'.  I ended up waiting almost a year from my initial consultation with Dr. Mitchell because of health issues and concerns about complications.  The closer my surgery got the more at peace I felt.  My surgery, the realize band placement, was 10/6/08 and I am only looking forward.

Personally I am 31 y/o and have a wonderful supportive husband and three furry children: boogie a nine year old yorkie, coco a 6 year old lab/shephard mix, and nala a 4 year old retriever/sheltie mix.  I work for the US Army as a physician assistant and I love my job.  I'm just looking forward to a healthier and happier future.
