Surgeon Testimonial

Joseph Kuhn, M.D.
My first impression was that he was just as all the reviews of him that I had read; he was soft spoked and had a lot of compassion. The office and staff were very friendly and competant. I feel that bedside manner is very important but surgical competence is definitly most important. Dr. Kuhn has been voted best Doctor in Dallas for several years in a row. I feel that I am priveledged to have him nearby; to be able to get the best. I have a lot of confidence in him and that is most important. Dr Kuhn visited with me before surgery in the holding room. He was very positive and reassuring. After surgery he came to see me and also the next morning. He is always the same. Kind and reassuring. Patient and makes you feel like you are his most important patient. His associate also visited me and said \"Welcome to your new life!\"

My Story

I  have always had a weight problem. I guess it really began at age 8 when I was laid up for a year with injuries from a car accident. That is when I developed an unhealthy relationship betweem me and food. Then it is more or less the same story as most of us morbidly obese. This diet and that diet. Gain some lose some then gain back more...
I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 35 and was put on insulin at the age of 37. My dad was  a diabetic who had heart bypass surgery at the age of 60 so I knew what I was in for if I didn't get my diabetes under control but I just haven't ever been able to stick with the program because of this unhearlthy relationship with me and food. I then developed high blood pressure, high cholestrol. Then came the back and leg problems. neuropathy, carpel tunnel, sleep apnea and so it goes. Now I have stints in my heart. I have been on insulin that is 5 times stronger then normal for several years now and they say that I am very insulin resistant.

I attended a seminar at Baylor stuck on having the lap band but after the seminar and hearing that I can actually maybe cure my diabetes with the RNY, that is what I have decided on having. I had all the tests done in Sept/Oct of 2007 and everything looked great until I got to the heart tests and that is when they found out that my main LAD artery was blocked 90%. So I had 2 stints put in my heart. I feel that if I had not persued this surgery and had the tests done my doctor says I would have surely had a heart attack so I feel like this testing saved my life!! Anyway the Cardiologist said no surgery for a year and so HERE I AM. The year has passed and my Cardiologists says if I have another heart cath so he can make sure that I am looking ok then he will give me my clearance. Dr Kuhn's office says I should not have to have the other tests repeated nor the meetings with the diatician either. The psych eval appproved me for surgery. I did redo that, so with any luck at all and God on my side I hopefully may have the surgery in November.

I feel that this is my chance to get my life back. At the present, my Quality of life is so poor, I feel extremely tired and depressed. I have severe pain in my lower back and legs with prevent me from being able to get much exercise. I continue to gain weight and I can't help but think that this is due to the strong insulin that I take. BLah blah blah....Enough complaining!

So that is the condensed version of story. I now have hope to regain my health and HERES TO ALL OF YOU! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!
