Surgeon Testimonial

Margaret Inman

I chose Dr. Inman to be my surgeon simply because she is the only Medicare approved DS surgeon in Indiana. My initial consultation was on December 4th, 2006, and really liked what I heard. Both Dr. Inman and her staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to answer any questions. rnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrn rnMom & Dadrn rnrn

What a ride
on May 31, 2007 12:00 am
Greetings everyone!  This is going to be very long winded!  lol

First of all, thank you to everyone who signed my support page and has sent a prayer my way during my recovery.  I received many emails, and even though I haven't responded, I appreciate them all very much. It's been an interesting ride so far, to say the least.

My DS was textbook perfect, with absolutely no problems at all.  My incision is looking good and energy and pain are getting better.  Right after surgery, while still in the hospital I was feeling pretty good.  But when I got home, I felt just awful.  After my JP drain came out, I still had massive amounts of fluid coming out of the opening still there.  I was in sooo much pain, couldn't stand up straight, and having to change the dressing on it every 15 minutes.  I ended up in the ER.  The doc wasn't worried about the draining at all.  But they did blood work and found out that my blood-sugar was 35! I had no idea it was that low.  So there I am in the ER, about 5 days after surgery, having to drink 2 cans of sprite, milk and a couple cheese-sticks.  Sugar went up to about 50, but I immediately had to visit the bathroom, which got rid of all the sugar.  So an IV dextrose solution it is!  Half an amp and it went up to 57.  Finally after being there for almost 9 hours, they gave me the other half and let me go home.

My sugar has started to even out now, this mornings being 129.  So I think the shock to my pancreas is over for now.

I called my surgeon a couple days ago regarding the pain I was in, and she set it up for me to go in and see her, but I instead saw her nurse cause I could get in sooner if I did.  Along with the pain I had more drainage.  Not from the JP area, but from the incision itself.  Massive amounts.  They said my incision was ok, it was starting to tame down, and didn't look infected or anything.  The area I was having the most pain in she told me was where they took out my appendix.  I had no idea they were going to remove that, so when she said that the pain there was normal, I was relieved.  They gave me some stronger pain medicine, which rocks the world.  I hadn't been able to stand up straight or lay in any other position other than on my back.

Last night I FINALLY had a good nights sleep.  I was able to sleep on my side, and not wake up through the night.  Today has been a better day for sure.  I'm still sore and have minimal draining, but the pain meds are very helpful, and I'm able to move around more and finally sit in the computer chair!  At least for a few minutes anyway.

On a good note, as of yesterday I have lost 15 lbs YAY!  That's pretty good considering I've had no activity level at all.  I'm tolerating food very well, and have not vomited at all.  So far my DS is working ~ woohoo!

Thanks to my Angel Tooter who sent me some flowers and a snoring teddy bear.  I LOVE it.  It's sooo soft and comfy.  My cats are trying to claim it. :)
