Surgeon Testimonial

Deron Ludwig, M.D.
I had read a lot about Dr Deron Ludwig on the internet and was impressed with the comments from prior and current patients of his. I called the office and the staff was just great. Kimberely was just wonderful in explaining the process while I related to her that I was just \"looking\". She was both professional and enjoyable while talking to her on the phone. rnWhen I met Dr. Ludwig for the first time I was immediately put at ease for some reason. He is a younger man than I anticipated but very knowledgable and experienced in WLS so that made me feel very good. His ability to relate well with those of us at this particular consult meeting was something that also impressed me. He took a lot of time explaining the surgery and various aspects of WLS and did a through job of giving us opportunity to ask questions. I left that meeting after a quick physical exam, with the knowledge and confidence I felt I needed to make a responsible and confident decision to proceed with the surgery.

I had my one year check up with Dr. Ludwig and all is well.  From my highest weight before the liquid pre surgical diet I have now lost 176 pounds!  I've lost MORE than half of me!  I'm weighing in at 171 (naked) now.  YAY!

I want to mention here that my diabetes that was diagnosed while at my highest weight 2 years ago is GONE completely.  My high blood pressure is GONE completely and is now 120/72.  My sleep apnea is GONE completely, no more machine at night, and my BMI has gone from 50.6 to 30.3!    yay!
I'm lovin' it.

It's been 7 months now!
on March 17, 2008 2:44 pm
Oh, I know I'm terrible for not entering things into this blog as I went through the surgery and entered the post-op stage.  I'm going to add a little rundown of those months here:
I had my surgery on August 13th, 2007.  That seems like a long time now since it's 2008 but boy has the time flown!  I had a fairly rough start after the surgery and soon thereafter found out that I couldn't tolerate any of the protein drinks.  It was tough but I managed to come up with a solution and stay healthy but it was very trying at times.  I got better and better as time went by and at last could eat things that helped me feel better.  Now, 7 months out I am feeling GREAT!  I've lost from 347 pounds to 199 and that's 148 pounds gone....FOREVER!!  I don't have problems eating unless I eat too much and I do NOT eat sugar or high fat so that really helps.  It's a challenge but I'm very tired of living fat...I refuse to do it again!  I still have a ways to go, maybe 20 or 30 pounds since I'm 5'8" and 61 years old AND the pounds are very very slow in comming off now but I'm determined.  That's about it for now so until next time I get itchy fingers, everyone stay strong and motivated, it's worth it!
Hugs to all,  a much happier Arlie!

Countdown!
on August 10, 2007 9:43 pm
Well, I'm on the countdown now.  Just Saturday and Sunday to go and then surgery at 7:15 am Monday!
I haven't felt real good for the last two weeks so I'm pretty weak.  I just don't tolerate the shakes well but I'm making it.  I've been on the liquids for two weeks now and it feels like a year..lol  I can't wait for my first bite of cottage cheese but that's still 10 days away....!  I'm already lovin the loss, it feels great in that respect so I just keep truckin!

God Bless you all...love ya's
Arlie

Starting the pre-op liquids
on August 3, 2007 5:06 pm
Well, I've seen the nutritionist, the nut doctor, had an endscopy, had all my blood work, xrays and EKG done and Im primed for admittance to the hospital!  My surgery is on August 13th and I'm so excited.  I can't believe that my insurance didn't even require an approval from then..wow!  That went fast for sure and I had my date for surgery pronto!  wooo hoooo...am I getting a wee bit nerveous???....heck yeah!  lol    Got my new nightie and robe all set..hahaha
Today I started on a full liquid pre-surgical diet and will be on it until my surgery date...then I'll STILL be on it for a time period after the surgery.  It's tough because everything smells so good wherever I go but I'm worth the effort and will succeed!
Good luck to everyone!

My Story

I grew up as a tall but not fat little girl.  My weight problem started after my first son was born and I just never fully lost all the weight I had gained.  I went for many years with just that little bit of overweight on my body but as the years passed I put more on.  I'm a great cook and love to eat what I prepare..so that was a problem for me plus the fact that I was married to a man who loved my cooking and I had three sons who devoured everything but the kitchen sink.  None of them are overweight.  About two years ago my obesity started causing me a lot of other problems, diabetes, cholostrol, high BP....I have arthritis.  I was really becomming a sick, obese woman and that's why I'm here.  My sister had the RNY last year and looks gorgeous and has no problems so that prompted me to think about it for myself.  My husband and I love to travel, sing and participate in our Church and I'm thrilled to know that I will be able to do much more of the things I love once I have gotten my weight under control.  Yippeeeee
