My Story

I am Andrea I’m 29 I have a 4 yr old son, a supportive husband and family. I have been heavy most of my life. I have tried the majority of everything there is too loose weight pills, programs, exercise program pretty much everything that there was to offer! I have been looking in the WLS for years and never took the incisive to go through the process. Last Oct (WEIGHT 329) I decided to set up a consultation with Dr. David Kim and he explained that I would be a good candidate for WLS but I had no idea if I wanted to have the lap band or the gastric. I then decided that I wanted the lap band my insurance company Aetna required that I go through a 3 month program. I had to make sure that I did not miss any classes or else I had to start over. Well thanks to Texas weather we had snow at the end of Jan (not normal here) and I had to start a few classed over. At the same time I started having issues with my employer so I thought that I may not be insured to have the surgery. But to my surprise I finished all my classes on March 18 2010 (WEIGHT 324) and I was told that the info would be submitted to in insurance company the next Day!!! YAAAAAAY MEEEEEE! I got a call from the insurance rep at the hospital right before they submitted to Aetna and she said that my paper work was not clear on what procedure I wanted I advised that I really not sure I was torn between the two. She the shared with me that she had the gastric and that she was 40 lbs heavier than I was and she knew that with the amount of weight that she wanted to lose it would be very hard with the lap band. So I spoke with my husband and my brother (my bestie) and we decided that it would be better for me to have the gastric. Within a week I received the call that I was approved and my surgery was scheduled for April 26. I started my Optifast liquid diet on April 5st (NOT EASY AT ALL)! Preop Appointment  and Registration on April 15 (WEIGHT 315 YAAAAAY MEEEE!)Next I have my University of Bariatric Class April 19TH then Endoscopy on April 20TH. Last but not least Surgery April 26! This is where my journey begins! I look forward to sharing my story with all my new OH family!!!
