Surgeon Testimonial

William O'Malley, M.D.
I didn't exchange a hundred words with Dr O'Malley from the start of my journey to today three days post op. He was respectful and kind but not warm and fuzzy or chatty. That's OK with me because he is technically brilliant and he didn't kill me.

His office staff and team is another story. The two nurtitionists I dealt with were patronizing and each told me wrong and erroneous "facts" regarding my insurer's requirements.

Faxed reports disappeared completely. Messages left for me were wrong. I had to call them for every bit of information despite being told repeatedly not to call them because they'd take care of it in a timely fashion. I feel I'd be having my surgery next year if I had left it to them.

The receptionist in the office was vacant and rude to the point of stupid. I do not understand why she has her position. I am not a violent woman but I swear I wanted to reach through the window and smack her!

Highland Hospital and Dr O'Malley and his partners are making a Bariatric Center as we speak. I think they need to make reevaluating members of their staff a priority.

Congrats on the weight loss Lynda...how is it going with getting the tummy tuck? I have United Healthcare too, and I have been denied twice. Just wanted to know if you had any secret ammo I could use!

April 16, 2009 Four year post op anniversary.
on April 16, 2009 6:22 pm
Fours years!  To be honest, I forgot all about my anniversary coming up until I received a congratulations email from obesityhelp.com.  I think that's wonderful.  I don't think about the surgery any more, I simply live my life.

I'm still an emotional eater.  I still eat too many sweets and junk food.  But all and all, I eat way less than I did when I weighed 100 lbs more.  I wish I could find the self discipline to lose the 40 lbs which will bring me down to my "ideal" weight.  Hell, I wish I could stay disciplined enough to lose the 22 pounds I'm still up from my post op low of 156.

This past year has been so busy with trying to stay connected to my two grandbabies.  They're 17 months and 13 months old now.  I'm leaving Saturday for a six week visit to my daughter as her husband is deploying to Iraq on Monday.  We've all had so much to think about which is more important than obsessing about weight.

I stopped reading this site because I was seeing the same arguments and criticism and immature behavior that I saw as a pre-op lurker.  If anyone wants my opinion, it is that every individual is different.  What works for one may not work for another.  There are no absolutes.  Lurk, read, use trial and error but ultimately you must decide what works for you.  It's nobody else's concern and you should take what you read here with a grain of salt.

Good luck!
Lynda
