Change in Surgery
on May 20, 2011 8:05 pm
After problem after problem with my port and the Lap-Band, I finally decided to have the band removed and convert to RNY. My surgeon didn't think that my insurance would approve it, but when faced with yet another surgery to fix my port, they approved the change in 5 days! Amazing!

So, the doc was able to get me in with only a week to wait and I am now 5 days post-op and I feel pretty good. I'm waaaay disappointed that I didn't just have this done at the beginning, but I guess sometimes you just have to live and learn.

I'm excited about the new journey and especially about not having to worry about that stupid port or having only liquids over and over and over.

What do I believe?
on August 26, 2010 5:42 pm
So my weight has been STUCK for like a week now, but I just went to my doctor and the scale at his office showed that I was 7 pounds lighter than my scale at home! Is my scale broken? What do I believe?

Slow Down
on August 22, 2010 5:50 pm
So weight loss is really starting to slow down... I know that the goal is supposed to be 1-2 pounds a week, but you really start to get used to it going much faster and then it is a disappointment when it doesn't. I need to resolve to be happy with my pound a week and not get frustrated like I have in the past. I am already down to 294 and haven't seen that number in years. It's OK that it could take 4 weeks to get down into the 280's. I'm going to continue to tell myself this...

It's OK to lose a pound a week.
It's OK to lose a pound a week.

Hopefully someday I'll believe it.

10 days post-op
on August 15, 2010 7:43 pm
For the first time in I don't know how long, my scale started with a 2 this morning!! I am so excited to be under 300 pounds. I vow that I will never again tip the scales at 300 pounds. Off to my next mini-goal. 275, here I come.

My Story

I am a 34 year old mom of 3 - ages 15, 13 and 4. I have been overweight since I was a teenager and I am ready to start a new life. My father and stepmother both had RNY and I have watched their success and complications and have decided that while I needed a surgical solution, RNY was not for me! I was banded on 8/4/10 and am excited to begin my weight loss journey. I know it will be a lifelong commitment, but I'm worth the trouble!

UPDATE:
After months of major complications - port flips, etc... I decided to convert to RNY.  What a difference. I am so glad to have that crap-band out of my body! The weight loss journey continues and as of now - 3 weeks after RNY, I have already lost more weight then I ever did with the band.
