Surgeon Testimonial

Robin P. Blackstone, MD FACS
I was amazed at the level of individual attention Dr. Blackstone gave me in the hospital after my surgery. The surgery was not completed until late in the evening due to my "turn" being last on a day of very "big" surgeries. She still stopped by my room after the surgery at about 9:30 pm to make sure I was okay. She is extremely thorough in all she does and sets the standard very high for her patients care!

I am a 51 year old grandmother who is anxiously awaiting my surgery date so that I can begin this new and exciting chapter of my life.  I have been 100+ pounds overweight since 1977 with a small break in 1995 when I dropped to within 50 pounds of my ideal weight of 122 due to my 20+ year marriage collapsing and a major depression taking over my life.

Well I have been single now for over 10 years, my children have found spouses of their own and produced some incredible offspring of their own.  I find that at this time in my life I need to move on and deal with MY LIFE.  I made the choice to get healthy.

Bariatric surgery seems the quickest and safest method to get on track.

3/29/07 Update
on March 29, 2007 9:47 am
I had my surgery on 2/7/07 without any complications!  I only spent one night in the hospital and did not have to take any pain medication EVER.

I am now 7 weeks out from surgery and have only lost 33 pounds.  I did join a gym (LA Fitness) yesterday and expect to be able to speed up the weight loss.

I think that my success and lack of any complication or pain has to do with the decision that I made going into the hospital.  That decision was to let "Jesus take the wheel".  Thank God for that.  I know that any direction I go in as long as I allow Him to drive will be the right one.

Unfortunately my surgery was cancelled the night before it was scheduled to happen.  I had already taken the bowel prep and everything!

I have been rescheduled for February 7, 2007.  It is two months away and I am a little depressed due to the delay.  I will have to have all of my pre-surgery tests completed for the 3rd time!

11/12/06 Less than 2 Weeks to Surgery
on November 12, 2006 7:31 pm

I will have surgery in less than two weeks and I am amazed at the amount of support I am receiving from my daughter, son and daughter in law.  My daughter in law has a new nickname... "soda nazi".  Pepsi is going to be my final sacrifice for this surgery.

My children and grandchildren are the reason I started on this path and they are surprising me at their support and willingness to learn about the entire process. They are going to be with me the whole way.  I am so blessed.

Today I took on the task of convincing two of my sisters to also explore gastric bypass surgery.  I guess I am being the guinea pig and as long as I can be successful I believe I can hold their hands along the way so that they can be too.
