Building Momentum
on July 20, 2007 4:11 pm
Well I am down to the bottom wire.  I have a little more than 2 weeks left of my pre weight loss surgery program and I have yet to lose the amount of weight needed to qualify.
Last Tuesday I started a pre-op diet that isn't required but can be given if you are having trouble getting the weight off (that's me!).  In 4 days I have lost 2 pounds so its working wonders so far.
Good news is I don't have to have all of the weight off until I go into my pre-op testing and I plan to do all of that in October.  So I think I am still in the clear.
I am getting so excited about it.  It's actually starting to feel real.  I ran into a friend from the WIN class who was a few months ahead of me last Sunday and she showed me her staples.  Boy did that hit home!  Someone going through the same steps as me just had the surgery.  WOW.
I decided to keep me motivated I would write a list of 100 things I want to do after sugery that I either can't now or don't feel comfortable doing now.  Some of the items are way out there but most of them I am sure most everyone here can relate to.
Enough for now...

Where has the time gone?
on July 1, 2007 11:29 am
I know, I am a bad dog.  I have been very negligent toward my profile here over the last several months.  I have so much to write about that I just feel so overwhelmed by it.  Today I will just give a brief idea of what has been going on over the last several months.
I have finished three fourths of the 6 months program needed to qualify for the surgery.  I only have a month and a half left.  I was told by the surgeon that they would need me to lose 20-30 (25) pounds pre-surgery and although I have been losing, it has been at such a slow rate that I am actually starting to worry.
Part of the problem for the weight loss is that my blood sugars have been running high and so, as my dietician was telling me, its nearly impossible to lose when your sugars are too high.  I have only lost 4 of the 25 required in the last 3 and a half months.  I am trying to stay positive since this is pretty much out of my control.  I am on new meds now and my sugars are looking much better so I can only hope that my weight will start to reflect that.
Next week I start a 3 week PTEL program which is basically a class with the dietician in Eugene via video confrence.  There they will go over the requirements of the pre and post op diet and then all that will be left is the pre-surgery labs.
I was hoping for surgery in mid September but I think it may have to be pushed back now.  I was off work for a while with an abscessed wisdom tooth which evolved into an extraction and I don't have enough vacation time to cover the surgery and time needed to recover after.  I am now hoping for October or November.
At any rate prayers, best wishes, and suggestions are always welcome.  I am getting nervous and worried now that time is coming to an end and I could use all the help I can get.
