Surgeon Testimonial

Jorge Urbandt
Dr. Urbandt and his staff are wonderful. He is very knowledgable and cares about his patients. I had complications after my surgery and Dr. Urbandt always made me feel in capable hands. In my 6 months of visits prior to surgery I feel every risk was discussed as well as the committment required post op. Dr. Urbandt also has a P. A. that works for him Jamie O' Niell she's wonderful. I feel like their whole office is my family in my weight loss journey.

Hi  my name is Beth I had RNY gastic bypass surgery on 09/18/2006. I reached my goal weight in 14 months. I have gained about 17 pounds over the last 2 years.      I 'm trying to get back on track. I'd like to lose around 10 pounds.

some setbacks and changes
on June 24, 2011 6:19 pm
I was off work for 3 weeks in March with a 10mm kidney stone. After just getting down to 159 pounds. Still hadn't felt well Have some problems with ovarian cysts . I just started to feel better at end of May and restarted exercising after 2 months. Then my father was hospitalized. Back up to 166 pounds. Started exercising again in the past few days. I have a trip to a health and fitness spa in July. Hopefully will be on track again and back to 153-158 pounds. I feel my best at this weight range. My divorce was final 04/29/11. It feels strange but good to have my maiden name back and to be single. But not ready to date any time soon.

Many Changes
on September 15, 2010 6:03 am

My life has really drastically changed. I seperated from my husband. We've been together since 1991. I feel like its the right decision ,even though its hard. Instead of feeling bad I joined a drop 10 in 10 class through my insurance company. I've been going to therapy ,I had a massage , dyed my hair red. I feel like my self for the first time in a long time. I lost 5 lbs my 1st week of class. I've been eating well and working out regularly. I hope to come out of this much stronger.

New Beginning almost 4 years post op
on August 22, 2010 9:44 am
I'm almost 4 years post op. I reached my goal of 155 pounds. But over the past 2 years I was as high as 180 pounds. Today I weigh 172 pounds. I would like to weigh between 160-163. I"m trying to get back to all the habits that helped me get to goal to begin with.

Still at goal
on June 14, 2008 10:05 am
I haven't written or posted in a while. I had a minor set back. I've been having Orthostatic blood pressure changes and syncope and dizziness. My blood pressure would drop to 70/30-40. It kept happening more frequently. My PCP started me on florinef to help elevate my blood pressure. I've been on it 6 weeks and no dizziness or blacking out. My blood pressure has been 90-116/50-70. i feel alot better. I went for a Dexa scan to test my bone density. I have a lot of risk factors so the wanted a baseline. My weight has been ranging from 151-155. I gained 2 pounds the first week on florinef up to 157 but I've seem to stabilize and I'm back to 154 today. I'm still wearing a size 6& small pants and tops. It still seems odd to buy smaller clothes. but I'm not complaining. My feet have seemed to shrink since last summer and I'm now wearing 7 1/2 or 8  shoes. I started at a 9 1/2 or 10 wide.  I'm looking forward to THe Obesityhelp conference in Pittsburgh in July. I met so many great people in Phoenix in October. I turned 42 on April  18th. I used to be embarrased about being in my 40's Now I feel and look better and everyone thinks I'm younger. Now I proudly tell anyone who will listen that I'm 42. I've been at goal now since November, 7 months is the longest I ever kept it off. but its never coming back. I'm fighting it with every weight I lift and every activity I do.

My Story

May 20,2006-.I've had my 2nd meeting with surgeon on 5/19/2006 since my intial consult in february, I have found out I have severe sleep apnea and started on a cpap machine. I also have arthritis and now just found out I have venous insufficiency. I had already been diagnosed with Gerd and PCOS with prediabeties. I have just finshed my third month of my pcp diet I've lost 4 lbs. I have three more months to go. I see the surgeon again 8/18/06 I should be able to set my surgery date then. I already did my sleep study, my labwork,my gastroscopy, my meetings with dieticain. I have to have my psychological evaluation yet and I'm going to the support group on 06/19/06. I thought that the 6 months would be an eternity but it's going fast. I'm started to get excited as I can get closer to a surgery date. myspace layout

October 7,2006--I intially had some post op complications. They knicked a large artery during my surgery. I had extra blood loss and ended up in surgery longer and also in recovery longer. My blood pressure was low. They tried twice the 1 st night to get me up and I was faint with dry heaving. I came home 9/20/06 I went back in the hospital a week after my surgery on 9/25/06. I had a fever and severe abdominal pain. They thought I had a leak. Fortunately my drain site It had been changed daily by a homecare nurse. Plus I'm also a nurse had become infected overnight. Looked fine Sunday by Monday afternoon was swollen red and filled with green pus. needless to say the pulled the drain. But I had some infection just underneath in my abdominal wall and all the tissue surrounding the drain was inflammed. I was on iv antibiotics and fluids. My magnesium levels were also low. I came home on 9/27/06. I've never been more exhausted in my life. They but me on po augmentin. I had nausea and diarrhea for days. Was still on clear liquids at the time. I started pureed food on 10/01/06. I've been having some vomiting and lots of nausea. It's been difficult to get in my fluids or protein. I saw the doctor yesterday. He doesn't want me to go back to work until the 30th of this month barring I have no further set backs. They changed my diet to full liquids for 4-5 days then to try puree again. I lost 22 lbs so far but I don't want to do it by being sick. The doctor says I'm already dehydrated and if I don't get more fluids in this week I may need IV fluids. I'm trying hard to prevent that. I did better yesterday with full liquids. I know things will get better I'm just stuck in a rut right now.
