Surgeon Testimonial

Apparao Vanguri M.D.
I was very impressed with Dr. Elariny the first time I met him was at a seminar that his office was giving. He was nice, he answered all our questions. He seemed very knowledgeable about the different kinds of surgery and explained each one. He also explained post-op care, the importance eating enough protein, taking our vitamins and drinking enough water. I choose him because a. my doctor recommended him, b. he has preformed a lot of surgeries. But he does not take my insurance and I do not want to pay out of pocket. rnSo I went to see Dr. Vanguri he accepts my insurance and seemed nice.

Hello my name is Bonnie I feel like I am at AA, I am very obese at 240 lbs.  I have not been that way all my life, when I graduated from high school I weighed 100 lbs, and thought I was too skinny.  I started to put on weight after I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 25.  Now I am 46 and weighing 240 lbs and I am ready to do something permanent about it.  I am going thru the process of getting approved for the Duodenal Switch; I am excited and scared at the same time, but ready to start.

I went to orientation last Tuesday, and my first support group the same night.  Two doctors spoke at Orientation, Dr. Elariny is the doctor that my PCP  recommends.  He is more expensive than the other doctor by 2000 dollars but he also has more experience. He is also very funny and seems nice.  On Monday I have a meeting with his dietitian for new patients.  The following week I have appointments with the P.A. and the next day Dr. Elariny.  I think the doctor’s office will help with the insurance

My Story

My Story, I moved to Maryland about 10 years ago from Arkansas, wow what a big change. I have not been over weight all my life, and was diagnosis as diabetic 20 years ago before I became obese.  I am single with no kids, two miscarriages, but I am close with my nieces and nephews whom I love dearly.  I am a Network Admin at a Telecommunications Firm., and I love my job, it is a desk job so I gained a lot of weight since changing jobs in 2000.  In 2000 when I took this job I was 160 1lbs now I am at 237, with my other job I was on my feet all day walking about 10 miles a day.  I was always complaining about pain in my legs and found out about 4 years ago that I have Fibromyalagia, which has contributed to a lot of my weigh gain. I have been unable to get much exercise since I was diagnosed with the condition, before I was very active.  Most recently I have been getting complications with my diabetes and steady gaining weight, I have been on insulin for about 3 years and it makes me gain.  The decision to start taking insulin was mine after my last miscarriage; it was easier to control the diabetes with insulin than pills alone. I start thinking about having WLS about 3 years ago; I had different insurance then Kaiser.  My BMI was not high enough but I had comobidities so my doctor approved me and I started the process.  I went to my first meeting with a dietitian and changed my mind; all of the dangers scared me.  I am now ready to have the surgery, I am tired of being diabetic and I am tired of all the medication, tired of being overweight and gaining more gradually.
