My Story My WLS journey: Just the facts ma'am...... *Banded in Oct '02 Pre-op wt=267lbs- (self-pay) *Several minor complications '02-July '04 including: *Port disconnection/Breakage/Replacement *Adjustment problems * Foaming, PBing, Reflux ect. *By July '04 I had lost 100 lbs.....life was good...so I thought. *By late '04, I began re-gaining wt, very slowly at first *Band slippage in '05 requiring surgical repair (self-pay) *Hernia repair at same time as slippage repair (self-pay) *By late '05 weight gain became more rapid *'05-'08 I could not get an effective fill.....always too loose or too tight *Several episodes of acid reflux, needing unfills, followed by wt. gain, then fills, then reflux, the unfill, then wt. gain etc. *I have had at least 40 fills, even w/ insurance coverig fills now, have paid thousands total out of pocket Now....... I am nearly at my pre-op weight. Would I get banded again? Absolutely not. Even when it was "working", I was in constant distress..filled too tight....unable to eat raw fruit or vegetables, frequently bringing food up, wicked acid reflux etc. I have decided to have a revision to a RNY. I am awaiting insurance approval. |
