I had my surgery on December 28th at 11:06 am 2005. I went to ICU and the next day I went to a private room. I was discharged home on Saturday Dec 31 at 11:00 am. I was very happy to go home and sleep in my own bed, be in familiar surroundings and know I was going to be OK. I initially had alot of pain & nausea 10 out of 10. With medication it was managed and I was discharged with a prescription. Today, Jan 4th is the first day I feel almost normal again. I am aware of my old habits - eating too fast, too much in my mouth at one time, feeling nervous when I am eating- not relaxed. Eating in front of the TV makes it worse. Reading seems to help change the pattern. Being prepared is important - having an idea of what the menu is for the day so you can count ahead of time is good. Drinking all the water that is necessary is important to but difficult to do.

Well, I have now completed the cardiac clearance & have had my 1 to 1 with Dr. Ali, my surgeon. One Tuesday they submitted a authorization request to my Insurance Company - Pacific Care POS. I am awaiting the approval and finally I will have a surgery date. I am finding out how difficult it is for me to wait for each step. I am going to the support groups already and value their input. Their words of wisdom and encouragement. So I wait... and wait... My hopes are to be approved and have a date before Christmas! so I wait.

I have been on this journey for over a year. My brother and my very good friend have both had the surgery. I investigated, searched, examined and dissected information re: Weight Loss including the surgery option for quite some time now. I have decided to pursue the R-Y surgery. I have attended Orientation, Nutrition, Psych, MD Class, Cardiology & await the 1 to 1 with my surgeon. Next week I go for a treadmill test and then we check with Insurance for authorization. Whew! what a process. By the time you go in for surgery you are soooo sure about this decision. I know I am headed for an adjustment period as I resume living as an active person again. So I await the date of my surgery - I have not been given a date yet but this too will come.
