My first impression of Dr. Alvarez was DAM! I'M SO FAT, AND HE'S SO HANDSOME!!!! I know...I know...just couldn't help myself. My impression never did change over time...It only got better. I was crying when I first walked in his office, and his beautiful nature as a human being was way overwhelming...SUCH a gem of a doctor! He made me feel safe and secure IMMEDIATELY! And NO, not cause he's handsome! :-) The office staff....mainly Susan, his coordinator was simply awesome. She ALWAYS took the time to answer my calls and/or email. She's # 1 in my book! What I liked most about her was she seemed concerned and caring, giving my questions full attention. Anyway, Dr. A went over everything....what the results should be...what the risks are....how important to follow the rules...and to top it off, I CANNOT thank the Dr/staff enough for their show of utter respect not only to me, but to my son!! They each totally made my son feel at ease, and like it was VERY important for him to know everything as well! And I cannot thank them enough for that! Surgical competence and bedside manner are rated a 12! Dr. Alvarez and his staff are the top of the line. I sincerely thank them for giving me back my life! Wow...HOW do you thank someone for that? I must say....I have NEVER experienced a doctor in the States like this one....I just haven't. God Bless Dr. Alvarez

Tuesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. i forgot i even posted its been so long

Geez...I was just reading my first post back in 2003....I DID end up losing 70 lbs., but of course I've gained it back and working on more!!! I'm having insurance problems....I have Humana thru Medicare....Medicare only approves a "Center For Excellence" hospital...My hospital is "in the process" of becoming one...Office manager took my name and number for the waiting list...so all I can do at this point is search for another hospital, and seems there's not one close to me that accepts medicare....Oh well, I'll keep praying God will lead me through this mess. I am so depressed.

Donna...thank you for being on my "friend's list". I read your blog and it said it was posted three days ago. If this is so you are still waiting for Medicare. I have read a good deal about Medicare and what happens when they approve us for surgery...once approved we don't usually have to wait long and we get scheduled for surgery right away. That seems to be the standard policy. Here's hoping our wait won't be long. Take care, hugs, Barbara

No Barbara, I wasn't waiting that long...Back in 2003 I was thinking of surgery, but I lost it on my own, only to regain it...so now I'm wanting the surgery for sure! Hugs, Donna

Donna...I just e-mailed you and I wanted to get back into your blog. I love the pic of your puppy...My hospital is only 4 blocks from my studio and the clinic is attached to it St. Mary's Hospital and the Duluth Clinic in Duluth, Minnesota. They are currently upgrading to be approved by Medicare for a Center for Excellence and hopefully that will be this Fall. I am getting excited all over again and I hope
yourWLS will come to fruition soon...Keep in

You said that your insurance only covers centers of excellence...I could've sworn that SH Bariatric Clinic was a center of excellence. Did you check with Dr. L's office to see if they are covered by your insurance? I'd highly recommend doing all that you could to get it done at SH. I know if you can't, then you could always use Dr. Nye's partner. Doesn't he have a new partner now?

As of 4/10/08, Sacred Heart Hospital is working on getting the Circle of Excellence...They said 2 to 3 more months...But I won't be using that hospital anymore since I'm going to Mexico.
