A practically perfect day!!
on August 17, 2008 10:25 am
I have spent the ENTIRE summer thus far drifting in the 190's until today that is!!!  My scale grumbled and then grudgingly gave me the numbers I was looking for since the first of June!!  It read 189.8 this morning.  That means I am less than 10 pounds away from having a BMI under 30 and being rid of my OBESE label.

LOL....I'll happily settle for being overweight for a few months after that!

I had a couple of other little victories today too!  I went shopping at Kohl's and was primarily sticking to trying on the XL tops and 16/18 shorts off the clearance racks.  Well, as I was heading to the check out line, I spotted a super cute crocheted dress that someone had chucked on a rack where it didn't belong.  It caught my eye because it was orange crocheted at the top with flutter sleeves and a wispy orange and brown geometric pattern at the bottom.  I stopped and looked at it and it was a size LARGE    I thought, "oh well, I didn't really need it anyway"  Then I thought, "you bonehead, if it doesn't fit you now it will soon enough," so I decided to try it on to make sure I liked the style on me before I added it to my cart and by golly the dress fit!!!  MY FIRST SIZE LARGE ANYTHING IN OVER A DECADE!!!  It was on clearance too boot!!  It was a really good shopping trip for me as I truly enjoyed myself and didn't feel "out of place" in the regular sizes for the first time.  Although I've been in the regular sizes for a few months now I hadn't truly felt comfortable shopping "over there" until today!

While checking out and going to the car (it was about 5pm) I remembered that I hadn't eaten since breakfast which was 5 low far Ritz with spinach-asiago cheese spread around 11am.  I made the executive decision that Mr. Entertainment was taking us out for dinner and it HAD to be TX Roadhouse because I was wanting a medium rare ribeye in a bad way!  So I go home and collect the hubby and little girl and off we go!  Richard and I decided to split a rib and steak combo with baked potato and salad.  Most of you already know my husband is banded as well but can still eat a whole side of beef if he sets his mind to it.  well, he had a fill last Tuesday and that's not the case anymore.....We both ate until we were full and I still brought about half the steak and half the ribs home in a doggie bag!!  This is a pretty silly NSV but it truly is a FIRST EVER for us! To make it even better we didn't even have a single bite of the yeast rolls although my 42 pound almost 6 year old daughter ate two of them by herself!!

So now i'm sitting here with my Starbuck's skinny latte (dessert) telling y'all what a "practically perfect" day I had!!

Yeah me!!

My Story

During the application phase for my surgery I tried to think back to the first recognition that I was overweight.  I looked at pictures and noticed that it would be more correct to say that I was always plump but had sporadic bouts of skinniness!!  I can remember though that my first introduction to Weight Watchers was at about 12 or 13 with my mother.  That was during the days of liver, tuna and making sure the tomato was seeded!  I can remember taking my lunch to school and eating my salad with flake tuna while the other kids had the typical school lunches.

In 1993, at the age of 27, I suffered a ruptured lumbar disc and had to under surgery to remove it.  At that time i'd say I was about a size 14.  Since then I've never been physically fit and my weight begin to creep up at a more significant rate due to a higher degree of self-imposed inactivity.

Each year I'd watch my weight creep up the scale until this past year when the additional health issues began to pile on.  In May of 07 I was diagnosed with hypertension and began medication for it.  In June of 07 I had a knee cartiledge repair where they found a great amount of arthritis.  The MD even told my husband afterwards that given the amount of arthritis he observed during the surgery that he expects I will require a knee replacement before he retires!

I am now 41 years old and newly banded (11/2/07)!!  I am 5'5" and start my journey with a BMI of 42.3 (weight 254).

My goals are to be a healthy, active and involved parent for my lovely daughter.  I want to be a proper role model for my daughter and by taking action to get my health to where it needs to be I am doing just that!!
