Rebecca, I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you prepare for your surgery in the morning. In three months time you will be so glad that you made this decision! If you need anything at all, do not hesitate to call me...you have my numbers. I live here in the area and I know that your family has a drive so I can pop over with anything that you need. I am more than willing to stop and visit with you but some people don't want a lot of visitors so like I said....call if you need me. Ask your hubby to post an update on your site so we know how you are doing. We have scooted over and there is a seat here on the loser's bench with your name on it. I can't help but think what a wonderful time of year for you to be having your surgery...Easter...a time for celebrating life! Spring...a time for the celebration of rebirth! God Bless You! Robin

Surgery is over....time to move to the loser's bench
on March 20, 2008 7:08 am
My surgery date was Monday 3/17.  They tell me surgery went as planned and that my recovery was excellent.  I didn't feel excellent post-op, in fact I felt like I had been hit by a pile up of mac trucks!  I had a prolonged stay in the recovery room because of nausea but they got that under control and sent me up to my room where my DH was waiting for me.  It was great to see him there smiling when they brought me in.  Wow - the pain was not what I anticipated.  Someone had compared it to the pain of my c-section and said this would be much less.  Let me just say that it was markedly increased!  I think that has to do with the gas that is injected into the abdomen for laparoscopic procedures.  My family stayed at my bedside throughout my hospital stay and they took excellent care of me.  Without them I don't think I'd be where I am now.

I was discharged from the hospital on Wed 3/19 and will spend the next week at my parent's home.  They will be able to help with the care of my three little one's as my DH has to go back to work.  He will be picking our children up from friend's homes tonight and bringing them to my parent's house.  I am so excited to see them - haven't seen them since Sunday evening!

I am taking Vicodin for pain now and it makes me very sleepy.  Also was told to take celebrex twice a day and to start my chewable vitmins twice a day.  My pouch seemed to reject the idea of that this morning.  I tried to space things out a bit, but still was experiencing a very uncomfortable feeling of "fullness".

I'm taking clear liquids and have decided to follow the plan from my surgeons office called "Protidiet".  It is amazing how hard it is to drink 6oz of fluid in a 2 hour period of time.  This is definitely a work in progress.

The gas shall pass - and it has started - what a relief!  Never thought I'd share such news with others, but it is amazing the difference in how I feel since getting rid of some of the gas.  Now, if only it would be gone altogether.

Well, that sums up my first days at home.  It can only get better from here.  I don't have a follow up appt until April 2nd so I guess I will wait until then to get on a scale.  (I like to always get weighed on the same scales)

More to come.  Blessings to all!
