Surgeon Testimonial

G. Derek Weiss M.D., F.A.C.S
When I first met Dr. Weiss I noticed that he sat down and said for us to talk. I felt no hurry and like I had all day. i had a few pages of questions which he not only answered in a way I could understand but then asked to make sure I got it. After my questions were asked he then explained things that I had not asked. He used pictures and diagrams as propts to aid in comprehension. We did not only talk about the mechanics of the surgery ,weight loss, and risk but also how it would totally change my life. He explained how I might lose and gain friends, how my personality might change along with my weight and how I might mourn the lose of my relationship with food. He painted a complete picture. He did not try to get me to have surgery but instead layed everything out on the table and encouraged me to continue to research and search myself in order to come to a decision. He spoke softly and with caring in his voice. His bed side manner and medical knowledge were exactly what I was looking for. He made NO promises but told me that the majority who chose to have wls and follow the instructions (for life) do very well. While in the hospital after my wls my blood pressure dropped and Dr. Weiss came right away. He figured out what caused it and fixed it. He then came back around 3:00am to make sure all was fine. He could have just called but he told me that he had to see for himself. On a scale of 1-10 he rates 1000000000000000. 14 months after my surgery- My personal experience with the doctor has changed greatly. I recently had not felt well and was admitted to the hospital. My doctor was not kind and actually acted annoyed that I was sick and very distant. Maybe, he just was having a couple of bad personal days, or was suffering from lack of sleep. What ever was going on it did not leave a caring feeling with me. THis was my experience and does not in any way mean that others will experience the same. There is the possibility that if I ever cross his path again he will be more like the doctor he was when he performed my GBS. I am praying for him and that he find peace. I do believe that he is an excellent, and skilled surgeon. Maybe he just had an off couple of days-we all do at times.
