Surgeon Testimonial

Rex A. Sherer M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Sherer was that he was a very intelligent man. My opinion of his hasn't changed. Dr. Sherer's office staff has been pleasant and helpful anytime I called. Dr. Sherer is a knowledgable surgeon and also a spiritual man. Dr. Sherer goes over aftercare and what to expect and answers all your questions. He is very patient and lets you talk to him without seeming as if he is hurried. He emphasizes that this surgery isn't a fly by night thing, it is a lifesyle change that must be followed for continued success. Dr. Sherer went over all the risks of surgery as well as the risks of continued obesity. Overall I would rate Dr. Sherer as a 10. I haven't completed surgery yet but my father in law used him for a different type of surgery. His surgical competence and his bedside manner are both great.rnrnrnrnrnThis profile was converted to the new format by:rnProtein Princessrnrnrnrnrnrnrn

Beth, Congratulations on your WLS! I hope everything went very well for you. May your recovery be a fast and smooth one. Remember to walk! As it really does help a lot early post-op. Take good care, and God Bless. :-)

Just a quick update.  I haven't lost any weight over the last month.  I am fluctuating between 185 and 190.  I am really ready for this to move.  I am loving the spring weather but darn with these rashes.  I have more energy than I have had in years.  I love life and want to live it to it's fullest.  I'm thinking of joining the YMCA just trying to debate whether I will use it enough to justify the cost.  Anyway...gotta get the scales moving a little more.  I realize that I have this panni and part of the weight is from it but darn!  I would love to get to 160.  No problems other than the rashes to report.  Later....

Update 4/15/2007
on April 15, 2007 6:43 am
I am now down to 185, I slip between 188 and 185 most days. I hope this isn't the end of the weight loss.  I have a lot of loose skin on my stomach, during the summer this area really gets in a mess.  I have had several rashes with peeling, itching and redness.  I would love to get this taken care of.  Maybe later this year???  That would take care of 15 pounds...I'm sure.  I would also love to have a breast lift, possibly with implants to make things back where they are supposed to be.  I am going to start a saving account to save up for this.  I do hope to get the tummy taken care of first.  I have lower back problems d/t a bulging disk and I believe getting rid of this excess stomach weight pulling down would help a great deal.  I'm trying to tone my arms and thighs up, I am thinking about joining our local YMCA, the kids would enjoy that.

Almost Onederland

Well....it has been a while since an update. I am down to 203 pounds. Only 4 more pounds till onederland. I am ready for it to come on! I can't believe it will be 1 year since my surgery in just a few more weeks. I hope to be under 200 by that time. I have had some stresses in my life lately and haven't been as on track as I should be and I know that but I am still losing and feeling physically good most days. I would do this surgery over again in a heartbeat. I feel so much better than I did 1 year ago. My DH, son and brother in law and I went to Auburn to see the game Saturday and I actually had a good time. A year ago, you couldn't have paid me to go. I will update again soon. Toodles.....

My Story

I am an RN and can't imagine doing anything else. I have done the yo yo effect with my weight for years but gained the most during nursing school. I want to be healthy and feel good again. The weight and high blood pressure drag me down. My consult appointment is on December 21st with Dr. Sherer. I am worried however because I have BC/BS and now they are changing their requirements. I really hope to be approved. The long standing effects of obesity are massive, from heart disease and diabetes to joint and bone disorders and sleep apnea. The long term effects of WLS are permanent life altering changes for the good health of an individual. In the long run the insuance companies will be saving money on Heart bypass, Hypertension meds and cholesterol meds and diabetes supplies. Pray for me guys...pray for me. I have never been so serious about wanting my health back in my life. Thanks
