I had to convert from Lapband to RNY
on September 11, 2010 12:01 pm

Well, I gave it my best shot.  The Lap-Band is a great tool!  It really reduced the amount of food I ate.  The only problem was I just didn't lose weight.  However, I know some other people who are having great weight loss with this tool.  I got my band ( I named her Bandice) in April of 2006.   After giving Bandice 4 years,  I converted to RNY on 03/02/2010.  Today is 09/11/2010 and I have lost 60 pounds.  I am 305.2 and I can't wait to get out of the 300s!  I must admit that I was worried if the RNY would work for me.  After trying EVERYTHING, I wasn't sure that this one would work either.  Luckily, my fears were unfounded.  I am still losing slower than others who have had the suregry and that just let me know that my body REALLY didn't want to let go of this fat!  I am happy that I had the band and do not regret one minute of it.  If I didn't have it, how would I know is it would work or not?  I want to lose at least another 30 pounds before the end of the year.

I am back on Obesity Help!
on April 25, 2010 12:12 pm
Hello, all!  It has been about 4 years since I have updated my page.  I  had the lapband in 2006 and I didn't find a fill doctor until 2007 when I moved back to the USA from Japan.  I kept the Lapband and I lost about 20 pounds.  I then gained some back.  During this time, I found a GREAT general practitioner who monitored my health closely.  I gained 30 pounds in 1 year!  Dr. Yedla was very concerned.  She ran several tests to see what was going on. I was diagnosed with diabetes at the end of 2007.  In 2009, I decided that I needed to do something else.  I was not losing weight with the band.  Two of my co-workers had already had the RNY.  I didn't want to do that because honestly, I was still afraid of the surgery.  I watched them- one had it in 2007 and the other had it in 2008.  Both are doing well.  I FINALLY decided that enough was enough.  After much soul searching, I converted to the RNY.  I had surgery on March 2,2010.  My diabetes is gone and I am very happy about that!  I have lost about 30 pounds as of today, which is April 25,2010.

So here I am on ANOTHER weight loss surgery; this is my third one!  I had the gastric balloon, the Lapband, and now the RNY.  Even though it is the "gold standard" of weight loss surgeries, I still had that fear that this one wouldn't work, either.  I am now seeing that it is working and I am glad for that.

I do believe that the band is good for many people.  There was another girl that had the surgery 2 weeks before I did and she lost over 75 pounds!   The Lapband is a great tool.

Where's my profile?
on September 9, 2007 8:56 pm
I had a WONDERFUL and detailed profile here and now it's one along with my photos!  I must admit that I don't have the heart (or memory) to recreate that profile again!  Oh, well, I'll just come here for support and to offer my support.
