Surgeon Testimonial

Laurence K. Tanaka M.D.
I specifically requested this surgeon by referrals from others. I was very happy knowing I had one of the most skilled no non-sense surgeons. I really feel his team was excellent and did not have any really odd side effects. I consider him top Notch!

Back on Track!
on September 18, 2011 1:15 pm
There are so many inspirational people on here. I just got back from the gym and adopting my lifestyle as just that does become a challenge but I realize this tool is easiest to use this first year after that my doctor says its very very slow. Im a saggitarius so I tend to want the change immediately but I am grateful my body is adapting to the change although slowly  but steady. I feel alot more confidence and a new meaning of joy through all this. I hope to help others some day going through this transition it seems to me there is very little support out there in the world. Just my thoughts for today :)

Fall is comming

Well my progress has been slow. Honestly i had strayed away from my lifestyle changes into the old working too many hours .. skipping exercise... snacking on a bit of Oops type things that got me to square one in the first place. Its always the progress of others that keeps me inspired. This site is terrific... People are motivating!! Thanks to all keep posting. 6 month post-op appt Oct. I will see how the surgergeon thinks im doing!

Yuk the Heat
on July 21, 2011 4:00 pm
Ok, I am not a sun worshipper but I do enjoy a sunny day not past 88 degrees.. I slacked off my exercise and going back to it and  it seems I am back at 0 with strength and building muscle. I am so glad I had this surgery. I hope everyone is doing fantastic. In fact I have a feeling everyone is. I hope everyone is encountering wonderful positive changes. I still feel like the same person not smaller yet, although I am. I havent bought any new clothes till I have too. Its still tough for me to get in the water but thats what I need to lose and flush the fat out. My goal is to get into a size 6. I had so many preconcieved notions. I do hope to meet one day a exercise buddy I am so much better when I am accountable not using that as a excuse. Now I am rambling so I post again and be more in shape (crossing fingers) I was so energetic at one point after surgery. My surgeon and reg doctor says I am doing fine. Ill keep visualizing that size 8 for motivation!!

My Story

Hi there..
thanks for checking out my page. I live in southern california.I have battled weight all my life and at one point felt so I am voluptuous I look cute still i get asked out. This mentality lasted through my early 40's I would still go out dancing /socializing every weekend. Eventually that stopped as my fat mainfested on my body in different ways (aging) so diid the results years of accumulated weight gain, loss, gain more brought.
I am 49 years old and refused to believe I really needed to have this or any surgery. I tried countless times to lose weight. I feel at times I am still in denial of my actual size. Although I am not as heavy as I once was the highest i was weighed at was 239 (that I know of) I had signed up to get a personal trainer and found out my bmi was 49. I know I wasnt the heaviest person they met but to me I felt ackward just being there and although intially determined it quickly faded not being able to perform the exercise suggestions. I know this sounds weird but i felt like i would get stares of people laughing at me.

At 48 i spoke with my doctor who suggested the surgery i wanted perhaps the lapband she felt for me that would be a waste. I started intitally with Kaiser taking classes but eventually left the program feeling I'd tackle this on my own!
A year later at my annual physical the results were not as well as i hoped I had gained the 5 pounds that I had lost the year before and other conditions due to my lifestyle were going to be requiring life long medication. At 49 Ive tossed in the towel and am finishing my classes with kaiser. I have faxed over my paper work to the hospital in San Diego Pacific Bartriactric and am waiting for appt to be interviewed by their staff for the final ok and date of  surgery.
