Surgeon Testimonial

Bruce Long, M.D.
Ok, I met Dr Long a week before my surgery. He endured my list of presurg questions. I had been warned about dry humor but not too bad. Main thing was he has done a lot of these surgeries and he do a good job on me! Only 1 week post op and would recommend him to other patients.

Down 23.8 pounds since surgery 1/26/2009! I am no longer a candidate for surgery (BMI <40%). My weight loss has been steady and not super fast but I am please. I could still do without the vomiting. I can eat the exact same food and it hit me differently each time. I am going to have to carry a emesis basin around with me. I have to admit I started some exercise but haven't done much at all this week. I recently caught a head and chest cold from my kids. I live in VA and last night we got our first real snow...almost 6 inches!!

I go to md 3/4 for follow up and release to work 3/9  I don't feel like I am ready but I know I have to go back sometime. I have weak spells, especially now that I caught this nasty cold. I plan to pack lots of easy go down foods for while I am at work.

Recently I posted a blog about chicken and veggies not staying down. I was able to start lean meats and soft veggies for week 4 but they still made me puke. Chicken gets stuck and veggies blow me up full of gas. Several folks responded with good ideas. One was, make the chicken in a crock pot. I tried that last night. It did make the chicken very tender. It stayed down this time but with some pain. I also tried those protein shots. I got it down but it was awful and made me gag. I have some on hand for days I can't get anything to stay down but will try very hard to get the protein on my own as close to 60g as possible.  I am going to experiment with some different shakes as well. Let you know what doc and nut says 3/4.

Thanks for reading and your support!!

Hello,
Down 4.6 pounds this past week. Almost below 40 BMI. I now get to start soft veggies and lean moist meats. I am still struggling with proteins and water. I finally found a local store that has those whey protein shots. I may try that. I vomited a couple of times again this week. I spoke with surgeons office who suggested I was eating too fast. So I am literally setting the fork down and watching the clock and not drinking. It has helped but I still have times where my pouch argues with me!! I have been exercising a little. I like to Shimmy with the show Shimmy on Fit TV. Its fun and does really give me a work out. I have been looking at local gyms but with $$$ now a days I am afraid to commit financically.
Thanks for your support. I read forums and blogs often.

3 week update
on February 16, 2009 4:27 am
Here I am 3 weeks post proximal RNY.  Weight loss seems to be better when I am able to eat a little more and keep my metabolism up. It has definitely been a struggle. Yesterday I was down over 15 pounds but that was one of the days I barfed and couldn't eat much. I have vomited  2 times in the past 10 days. Yuck. Both times were after a 3-4 bites of scrambled eggs. No more eggs. One more week and I move on to soft foods (lean moist chicken, tuna, fish, soft fruits and veggies without skin). I don't see how I can eat them.
TTFN,
Robin

2 week update

Hello,
I am down 10 pounds 2 weeks post RNY surgery. It has felt slow. Everytime I eat is a new experience. At times I feel ok, sometimes very weak, and sometimes chest pain and back pain. The time of day and food does seem to make a difference. I have given in to a 'treat'. I was feeling very deprived and sucked on some cheese puffs. They didn't hurt my belly and I didn't eat very many. Don't want to start bad habits already but the hand full of pureed things I can have now were driving me insane. Not getting in all my protein. Trying shakes, cheese, yogurt trying to get close. I am on an emotional roller coaster. I cannot feed any addiction food or alcohol (not that I was an alcoholic before). My hubby is a victim of the terrible economy and that is hurting us.

Glad to hear of everyones success and viewing before and after pictures. They are such an inspiration and remind me of the light at the end of the tunnel!!!!

Thanks,
Robin
