Surgeon Testimonial

Albert T. Spaw, M.D.
My PCP was the first person to actually mention Dr. Spaw to me. He has known him for years and thinks very highly of him.

I had already been to seminars at 2 other Nashville area hospitals when I decided to attend the one at Baptist. Dr. Spaw was the one leading the seminar that night and I immediately felt at ease with him. When I met with him a week later for my consult he made me feel even for comfortable.

He told us in the seminar that, after the surgery, we will be a patient of his for life. Even after the first 2 years, I will have to see him at least once a year for the rest of my life for follow up. My first 2 years of post-op care was included in his surgeon's fee. That includes the nutritionist as well as any calls or extra visits I may need in case of a problem.

He took time to ask not only why I wanted to have WLS but what had led me to decide on the RNY. We discussed what effect the surgery could have on some other health issues and he answered some more questions I had come up with after the seminar. We also discussed in more detail some of the possible risks of surgery. I never felt rushed or like I was just another fee. I felt like he truly had/has my best interests at heart.

My husband was very nervous about the surgery. After he met Dr. Spaw the morning of my surgery, he felt a lot better. He checked on me every day in the hospital and made sure my husband was doing okay too.

I still feel like God led me to the right surgeon for me. I had no post-op problems or complications.

I had to have a 2nd mammogram done today. The one I had last Monday showed an abnormality in my left breast. I've tried not to think about it all week. I figured I had just not done a thorough enough job of wiping off the antiperspirant that I stupidly put on that morning.

Bad news...it wasn't the antiperspirant. Good news...they don't think it's anything to worry about. I will have to have another diagnostic mammogram done in 6 months to see if there is any further change.

The ironic thing is, they said the change could be from my "significant weight loss" since my last mammogram. The tech who did my test told me that one of the other techs was looking over my films with her and asked if I had had breast reduction. LOL

I guess losing 127 pounds does reduce the size of the breasts. I've gone from a 48DD to a 34LONG. hahahaha Thank goodness for good bras!

I have been meaning to create my profile for a long time now. I guess now is as good a time as any.

I went to the Southern Women's Show yesterday with my daughter and son-in-law. This has been a tradition with us for 4 years now and the highlight each year is the "fashion show" put on by the Nashville Firefighters. This year DD & DSIL talked me into having my picture made with the "boys" after the show. When they were told of the changes in my life during the past year, they chose my pose - across the knee of 3 of the guys on the front row!! OMG! Then, DD and I had another pic taken together with all of them. My favorite FF was not among them though. That would be my son-in-law. He says he will be one of the dancers next year. LOL

I am currently wearing a size 10, down from a size 26/28. The jeans I have on in the pic with the FF are a size 12.

I also went Thursday afternoon to have the porcelain match done for my permanent bridges. They will be done in about 2 weeks and then the transformation of my smile will be complete. One year and $7,000 worth of braces, bridges and Zoom! whitening later, I finally have a smile I am proud of! Thank you Dr. Harris and Dr. Gean at Castle Dental Clinic in Rivergate!!
