My Story

I’m a 39 year old wife and mother of two beautiful daughters ages 17 and 18. I first remember being overweight at around the age of 8 and with the exception of a brief period in my late teens (when I was sick) I have been overweight ever since.   

My sister and I attended a weight loss surgery seminar during the summer of 2007. We both turned in our paperwork and found out that her insurance covered the surgery and mine did not. She had her surgery on April 15, 2008 and has been extremely successful. Her success made me so happy for her but even more aware of how badly I wanted it for myself, even to the point of considering self pay.  

During open enrollment for this year I discovered that the exclusion for weight loss surgery had been lifted and began the process of jumping through the insurance hoops. I submitted my paperwork on March 5, 2009 and was approved on March 26, 2009. I’m looking forward to my surgery on April 29, 2009.  I am so thankful that God has given me this opportunity!
