Surgeon Testimonial

Wade Barker, M.D.
I had my first appointment with Dr. Barker on 27 November. His office was very busy and I had a rather long wait...but it was worth it! I found him very professional, informative, and friendly. He answered any and all questions I had and even informed me of my insurance requirements. I had done extensive research on him and the procedure so I really did not have a lot of questions for him.

He told me he highly recommended the surgery due to my health conditions and felt that insurance approval would not really be an issue based on my weight and co-morbidities.

He told meI would need to have a doctors letter of medical necessity from my personal physicial (which she was more then happy to supply) a psyc eval, see a nutritionist, have an EGD completed, and see a cardiologist to ensure I was healthy enough for the surgery.

During this visit he did not address the aftercare extensively, but assured me that would come with our next appointment.

After meeting him I met with the nurse who is also very friendly and informative.

After that it was off to the insurance professional who advised me of my insurance requirements and told me if I could not get into the doctors recommended to call and let them know and they would get me into another office.

All of his office staff that I came into contact with has been very friendly, professional and willing to assist me in any way needed.

The only negative thing I can say about this visit is the fact that I had a long wait in his office for a scheduled appointment, but this gave me a chance to meet patients that had already had the surgery and other new patients like myself.

I met with a nutritionist and have the psyc eval completed the very next day and both informed me they were recommending me for the surgery. I found them to be very professional, friendly and informative as well. They provide a lot of good information and feedback and I look forward to meeting with them again after surgery. I had several questions for them and they were more then happy to answer them all. I did not feel rushed in any way.

Hi!  My name is Hollie.  I am married to a wonderful man named Terry, and we have been married for nearly 16 years.  He is in the U.S. Navy and has served for 18 years now.  Together we have two children, our son is nearly 13 and our daughter is 11. We moved to Forney in August of 2007 from San Antonio.  I am looking forward to taking this next step in my life.  Finally, I am doing something for me!!!  I have been a student for the last couple of years.  I made the decision to make my life long dream of becoming a nurse a reality so I started taking college classes a couple of years ago.  I graduated with HONORS in May of 2007 with my Associate of Science degree.  I am applying for some of the ADN programs in the Dallas area for fall admission.
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!!!  Or that life ends at 40!  I am proof that good things can happen late in life.  I look forward to making new friends along this journey...hope you are one of them:)

My Story

Well, I have had weight issues most of my life.  They pretty much started at puberty.  Back then I didn't see anything wrong with the way I looked, but some people did.  I was forced to go on some pretty crazy diets...and that I believe started the roller coaster ride my life has been on since.

I have tried just about every diet on the market and some that weren't.  I have also tried most legal OTC pills and powders to try and lose weight.  I came to the conclusion that all of these work...until you stop following them...then you gain all the weight back plus some in most cases.  I have lost as much as 80 pounds on some of the diets...but the weight came back.  I have been up and down forever it seems...but in the last few years it has been more up then down and I finally admitted that I can't live like this any more.  I had been thinking about the surgery for just about 6 years and researching it, but never actaully asked my doctor to forward a recommendation...

I finally just knew I needed to make some drastic decisions and life style changes.  I finally admitted to myself that I wanted to live...that is when I started to check into WLS.  So far things have been falling into place and I guess that is because it is the right time for me.  My husband and children are very supportive of my decision.  Our families are too.

I did not choose to have surgery because I didn't like my body...I decided to have surgery so that I could live the life God intended me to.  I have some serious health conditions to include High blood pressure, High cholesterol, Sleep Apnea, pre diabeties, gout, depression, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, chronic inflamation, and so many other ailments...way more then a 40 year old should have!!!

Any way...things are moving along and I am grateful for the journey!
