Surgeon Testimonial

Eric Bour
I really like Dr. Bour and his program. He has an outstanding program. Every week at support group meeting I am impressed with his staff and all the information I learn in meetings. rnThe thing I liked the least was the waiting list. He is so good that he is kept booked months in advance. Future patients need to have reasonable expectations. He does not perform drive through surgery. There are psychological tests, meetings with a psychologist, meetings with a nutritionist and pre-tests done to ensure that it is safe for you to have this surgery. Aftercare is absolutely emphasized but is not the only consideration with Dr. Bour. You have to take classes prior to being scheduled for surgery. If you don't take the classes you don't get the surgery. He wants to make sure that everyone knows exactly what they are getting into and what to do in any situation. There is a carefully structured aftercare program and classes that are mandatory. Dr. Bour is very knowledgeable and I have spoken with several of his patients to ask them questions as well. They all speak very highly of him. HE explains everything to you and you are SOOOO INFORMED!! I'll update more after surgery. :)

It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. New Update!! :) Life goes on.....
on April 11, 2009 11:14 am

Well....the year 2009 has been very interesting to say the least.
I had to have emergency hernia surgery on Feb 7th!  I was in so much pain I could hardly stand up.  Right now my insurance is denying the bill of over $30,000 because they state it is a complication of my WLS.  Ugh!! So frustrating.  I gained 5 lbs after surgery..but now down to 210.  I just back from a cruise to the Greek Islands and Turkey.  I LOVED IT. NO weight gain .  I am hoping to get back on the exercise track this week.  Working 2 jobs, school, studying, and church activites..keep me busy.   I miss my surgery sisters. I hope my life will slow down soon!  Just wanted to write a short update. I may try to post some Greece Pictures too. God bless....till next time America!

2009-I am ready change!Clean slate, fresh begining
on January 1, 2009 7:39 pm
Well....as I sit here and type this.... I look back on 2008 and it wasn't so bad.  I did lose lots of weight 127 lbs- plus an ex-huband that weighed 190 lbs...so a total loss of 317 lbs!! lol
Not too bad!!!
Now I am looking forward to 2009!! I am still working 2 jobs and going to school.  I am pursing a Bachelor Degree in Business Admin from Furman University.  Go Paladins!!  I was able to go a cruise with my family and friends in Sept - what a relaxing time.

In 2009 I want to do more for God!  I really do not have New Years Resolutions.
The usual- Exercise more, lose more weight, maybe have plastics done, keep going to schoolm make friends, maybe meet Mr. Right? or date Mr. Wrong lol !!

I am going to Greece and Turkey in March 2009!!  I am working that second job...just to go!! But it will be so worth it!!   I just got my new passport- a way better picture than before!!   I am thankful for all my friends and family support.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have, into enough and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order and confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Happy New Years to all my friends!!
God Bless!

1 year check up*** WHOOOOSH..that year went by...
on November 7, 2008 11:05 am

Well.....so hard to believe that it has been a year yesterday that I had surgery.  It went by so fast!  I am forever grateful for the decision I made.  It has changed my life.  I met with Dr. Bour and Katie and the Dietician.  I weighed in today at 213!!  I really wanted to be 207 since the day of surgery I was 307...but that is ok.  I am still losing weight- that is what is important.
SO TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS is 128 lbs!

On
October 1st I went to the ER with severe abdominal pain. IT WAS ROUGH!! .  Dr. Bour thinks i have an ulcer so I am on Prilosec and Carafate (4 times a day). SInce my iron is low..I hope i do not have a bleeding ulcer.  So for right now...no EGD or CT scan.  We are playing the waiting game!   This is the  first week I have felt "normal".  My iron and protein levels were low so he prescribed an iron supplement.  I am meeting with my surgery sisters (Cathy and Deidre!) tonight to celebrate and take pictures!!  They are doing and looking great as well.  I had a great time on my cruise in Sept.  Will post pictures soon.   Dr. Bours goal for me is now 170.  So when I get to weighing around 180 lbs- I will do a plastic surgery consult. I hope my insurance will pay for it!

Many thanks to all the support I have received from OH and family and friends.  I am truly blessed!

So...till next time!

9 month check up!
on September 3, 2008 6:48 pm
I met with Dr. Bour today.  I have lost  a total of 117 lbs.!!  I am little behind...but not by much.  I feel so much better!!  I weighed  224.  My goal is to be under 200 by my 1 year check up on 11-7-08!  Dr. Bour was pleased with my progress so far....no complaints.  I am still walking at lunch, swimming and using the elipitical machine (which just about kills me!!)  that is so tough!
I have also started working a second job and I am taking a class at TECH!! busy...busy..which is all good.

I am leaving on a cruise next week - leaving from New York, then Boston, then Portland, Maine then Halifax and St. John, Canada... It should be really pretty with the fall colors.  I am going with 16 other friends/church people.  I am sooooooooooo looking forward to it.

I will post again at my 1 year check up.  I had one friend have the surgery in June and I have 2 friends having this surgery  later-  One Sept 15 and one later in the year.  Dr. Bour is so great.
I am very thankful for this opportunity!
God bless...till next time! :)

Eating slow and eating 4 oz total!
on July 24, 2008 11:11 am
Well...as I really worried how I would do with eating less.  I mean...you get used to eating more...it's so  hard to go back.  I am eating my meals I buy from Nutrition Solutions ON THE WHITE PLATES!!!  SO far so good.  When I went to support group Tuesday, I had lost 2 more lbs since last Wednesday when I met with Cammy.  So that was good.
After support my surgery sister Cathy and I went to Applebee's to catch up and eat!! yumm.....it was so good.  JUST FYI -- I ordered off the Kids menu and on Tuesday's.....it is  99 cents for kids meals...Yeah!!  Our waitresses name was Gina and it was the Applebee's on Woodruff Rd.  Thanks Cathy for listening to me....we are soooooooo much alike... it's really funny some times when we are together, we think alike, talk alike etc...... Can hardly wait to get together soon with Deidre!!

Anyway........I will keep truckin on... I still would like to lose 50-65 more lbs. Once I lose 50 lbs...Plastic Surgery consult...here I come.  Yeah!!
So far it's been an incrediable journey, and one that I would not change.  People going into this need to know that it a ride....one with curves, hills, valleys and sometimes speed limits! ha!!  Sometimes it is also a bumpty ride...but enjoy it!!
Til next time...
Angela

My Story

My story is no different from any other person's story on  this web site.  Many thanks to all of my friends who are supporting me through this web site.  Most weekends I spend quite a few hours scanning different profiles to learn and read about the good, bad and the ugly! lol   I know that people come in all shapes and sizes and I respect that 100% .  Each person must decide for themeselves what will work and what does not.  I thought orginally that I would never have the surgery myself.  However, I changed my mind and I am ready to embrace a healthier lifestyle.  It will take discpline to make the correct choices. I  have struggled with my weight mostly in my adult life.  I was a premie baby...so when I was younger I was smaller.   I am learning all I can about what is the right decision for me.  Today is 7-12-07- I am just starting this Weight loss journey.  I went an informational group meeting today and I am considering RNY -gastric surgery.  My mother had an gastric bypass called MGB "Mini-gastric bypass".  She has done very well and has lost 150 lbs!! - 4 year post-op. (6-5-03)  We will see how long this beginning paperwork process is and if my insurance will pay for it.  That is a key factor!!Thanks for all the support! Thanks for reading.
