HELLO! 10/27/08
on October 27, 2008 3:01 am
A shout of blessings to everyone here.  Just stopping in to check up on my friends list.  My business is keeping me super busy as I prepare for the Holidays.  I've made several out of town trips to buy for the store and haven't been around.  My daughter, son & his wife and of course, my darling granddaughter all traveled to WV to attend my cousin's daughter's wedding. It was an adventure to travel with an 11 month old for nearly 8 hours!! She did really well the whole trip.
I posted a picture of her earlier this month.  I'm excited about a billboard ad that I'll have up in Nov & Dec that features her picture on it.  I can exploit my grandbaby, right?
I've been drawn for a deer hunt - thank God I've lost weight!~ I can't imagine hunting at my old size ever again! What a struggle it was!
All that walking and climbing and such - never again!
My hunt I was picked for is in late Dec & early Jan near McClutchenville, OH - I'll have 2 weeks of access to several acres where the deer need to be harvested due to overpopulation. It's a bow only hunt. I use a crossbow.
I'm still working on trying to lose 20 to get my 100 club card!

9/11/08 - Happy Fall - Summer is almost a memory!
on September 11, 2008 8:52 pm
Hello! I have been away for so long.
I hope to check out everyone's sites this coming week and reacquaint myself to some of my friends and check their progress.
I FINALLY loaded pictures my daughter took of me at my store yesterday. I know my pants are too big but I don't want to spend the money to buy new until I lose more weight!  I really hope to be back posting more because I haven't worked at my next goal of losing the last 40lbs this summer like I had hoped. I need this website to help me stay on track!  Now, I really want to get to my goal before my anniversary date this December.  I have still been faithful to attend Curves 3 times a week - but I spend so much time at my new business that I never see my treadmill to use it - plus this summer was so hot I didn't attempt to try to take walks like I had hoped. The days are cooler and I WILL TAKE WALKS to boost my exercise.

The RYN is great. After losing 74 lbs - I probably would have gained 1/2 of it back by now without the surgery to help me.  I really like how I can stay at a weight once I reach it! That part is great!

Three  weeks ago my husband was in a motorcycle accident and broke 6 bones along the left side of his upper body. I am so thankful to God that he is okay.    It's been a strain on me and our family, but it is getting better everyday as he is healing and able to do more for himself. Thank God he always wears a helmet, too!

Be blessed! Lori

6/3/2008 OH MY GOSH! IS IT JUNE ALREADY?
on June 3, 2008 4:17 am
These last few weeks have been just a blur for me and my family.
I opened my Christian family Store during the Memorial Day weekend. Everything has been going great - thanks to God!  I have gotten down to 225lbs (Ladies Size L tops and 16 bottoms) but I am not stopping there or settling for that weight. I am almost 5'10" and know I am looking better than I have in years! I've still been going to Curves 3 times a week  but I haven't been able to add to that exercise and I know I really need to!  I am ready to start a new goal. I KNOW I will get there. I don't mind taking my time. I really love my RNY and I love how when I get to a set weight I can stay there and not yo-yo. My next goal is to be under 199lbs by Labor Day.

My Grand Opening is set for Saturday June 14th. Once I get that behind me, I will get serious about implementing more exercise into my routine and curbing my grazing.  Right now these days are "practice" days - working out software bugs, establishing accounts and setting up all my accounting & payroll. It's very tedious and time consuming - but each day brings me closer to everything working together and smoothly for the rest of the summer. My hair has finally quit falling out in large quantities. I have been using Nioxin products with great success. Thank God I had thick hair and it's not noticable that I have lost about 50%. I am wearing it about 4 inches shorter.
I am making plans to go to Cedar Point and riding everything! I know I can now fit into all the rides! Yeah!
My best to everyone here. You are all in my prayers and I am so proud of the many great accomplishments & goals all my OH friends have made.
Sorry I have been so distant!
New pictures to follow very soon! Love Lori

I am finally under the 240 mark and weigh 238-239 and staying there. I have made a trip to GNC and bought some varieties of protein supplements so I can get focused and go for my next goal of 225 - by Memorial Day. I have lost quite a bit of hair, but thank God I have very thick hair and so far it's hardly noticeable. I think I may have lost 25-33% of my hair by now. I am planning on getting it cut a little shorter - my hairdresser suggested it would help.
It's hard with my schedule to stay on a fixed diet, but I am
persevering! I know if I really tried harder I would be further along - but I am okay with my progress! I am going in the right direction!
I am delivering a message at a women's retreat at the end of this month. The retreat is all about the Gentleness aspect of the Holy Spirit. God has given me some great things to impart to all the ladies who will attend.
It was fun to see my mother return this week- who has been in Florida since before my surgery - and see her reaction to my weight loss.

It's a glorious day today - I'm taking a long brisk walk! How about you?

Can't wait to go ride roller coasters at Cedar Point this summer and fit well into the seats! Wheeeeeeeeeee!

It's been toooo long since I've posted! BLESSED EASTER TO EVERYONE!      I hope to be under 240 for my next goal. I'm really close and could be there but I'm not gonna get on a scale during the holiday - maybe this week...EEKKKKS....AFTER Easter!  I know I should be further along - maybe to 230/225 by now - but I am not in a hurry. It's coming off and staying off as I go and I'm concentrating on tightening up as best I can for a 50 yr old.  I'm gonna get there in my own sweet time.  Some negative side effects include: My hair is thinning some, but it's not bad or noticeable. My legs are uncovering varicose & spider veins as they get thinner and the cellulite disappears -ewww!~
I AM SICK OF THE SNOW!~ WE got another dumping of 4 inches this weekend. We're already over 25 inches above the norm for the winter.
I want to take long & vigorous Spring walks - it can't arrive here fast enough! My treadmill is a God send.

Welcome to my newest friend to join my list ~ Lin_der ~ she has gotten approval for surgery. Congratulations!

My Story

Wow! This website is a Godsend! So many lives forever changed. I call everyone here blessed by God.

I have been in the process since March '07 of gathering the necessary info through Dr. Lane's office to submit to my insurance co. I am with Medical Mutual Super Med Plus. I have talked with reps from Med Mut and they have assured me there should be no problems getting approved if the correct info is submitted. The paperwork is being submitted by Oct 1. I should possibly know something 2 weeks from then. We'll see...Looking at the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy procedure but thinking more and more that the Duodenal Switch could be the best choice for me - Dr. Lane hasn't had the final say.    We'll see what he prescribes and I will trust and accept his decision.

I almost made my handle "blessedbeyondmeasurements" ha ha...I have been lurking all summer at this website gathering information and inspiration. Thank you to all.

I am a 49 yr old mother of 4 children ages 22, 21, 19 & 16. Three boys and a girl. I have been very happily married for 24 years to a Godly man and lead a charmed, abundantly blessed and Spirit-filled life in Northwest Ohio. We are a very close knit family and of course, I am the designated grand COOK of the family and we love to get together and we love to entertain! We are all very active in our church-which is a non-denominational affiliation. I am on the praise and worship team and love to sing. We have homeschooled our children for the past 11 years and I just have my daughter left to prepare for graduation!  Also about me, I have held positions in management - mainly in the grocery/retail industry since my college days. Our family is a hunting family. We all like to hunt (& eat!) deer, pheasant, duck, goose & rabbit.  I hope to be a better hunter after weight loss surgery. We make a yearly trip to Iowa during pheasant season. We have 2 labrador dogs that are brothers, Gunnar & Vashon. They are 2 yrs old and a wonderful addition to our family.

Currently, I am going through the channels to open a Christian music, books & gifts shop by next Easter. It's an adventure jumping through all the necessary hoops of lovely state & federal codes and filling out mounds of paperwork. Another great happening in my life is that my oldest son has been happily married for 2 years to a lovely girl that we adore and they are expecting our first GRANDCHILD - a girl, in November. We are so excited that Elora Belle is on her way!

My weight history is typical of so many that are here needing surgery. I am large-framed, standing at 5'9" and currently I weigh in the 290's.  I can say that I carry my massive amount of weight very well on my frame - my height does help! I wear size 20-22W and 2x's.  I was overweight as a child. My school pictures document me as a chubby kid and I was only "thin" in 5th grade because I grew 7 inches in 7 months that particular year.  A couple years out of high school, I weighed close to 290 and went on a crash diet.
I bought a bunch of supplements from GNC and worked out feverishly 5 days a week at a gym and ate nearly nothing. I got down to 178 within a year. I got married at that weight and within a year I gained back 40 lbs and soon thereafter became pregnant.  I was now 25 years old. During most of the 80's I could keep my weight down to the lower end of 200 between pregnancies by jogging, walking or jumping rope. After the birth of my daughter in 1991, my health took a turn and within a couple of years I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia & chronic myofacial pain.  I discovered this because I was working out 3-4 times a week and losing weight - 30lbs within 6 weeks - and I felt just awful. I ached all over.  I went to the Dr and told her that I feel like I am headed for the remainder of my life to be spent in a wheelchair.  I got the diagnosis after long tests and using the process of elimination. My Dr took me off my vigorous exercise program and told me to just walk and stretch. Over the years I had tried Weight Watchers, slim-fast, Nutri-system and other fad diets to only lose the weight and gain it back plus with additional weight! I have dieted UP to my current weight. Not fair. I just can't seem to diet any longer for more than 1 or 2 weeks. I think I am mentally traumatized - that I will just gain more weight back anyway and get ever-so-much bigger than I already am.
I have also had other weird problems when attempting to lose weight - like having to be life-flighted to a hospital after swimming laps at my local high school's indoor pool because I starting spitting up blood and got short of breath - only to find out after 4 days in the hospital on oxygen and tons of tests later that I merely had a severe reaction to the chlorine in the pool. Or how about after walking daily for nearly 2 weeks - a couple miles a day, mind you -  that I ended up in a orthopedic boot because I got Morton's neuroma and 2 hammer toes-one on each foot? (Steroid shots in the middle toe joint is more horrible than labor pains) I still have the foot problems and orthopedic inserts have not entirely helped.  In 2001 I started using a C-Pap machine - it is set at 12. I have been attending my local Curves for over a year - 3 times a week and the only good thing that has changed is I haven't gained any weight and stayed the same and gained  better flexibility. (geesh!....can one really wildly celebrate NOT breaking the 300 mark? I suppose I do...) It doesn't help that every time I work out it feels like the first time I have worked out in months. It's just a fact of life. I take no Rx for the fibromyalgia-never have. I started taking Lisinopril this year due to an elevation in my blood pressure and my blood work just this summer met the low end of mark to be put on Glucophage!
Despite everything working against me, God's grace just always gets me through every situation in my life. I am a firm believer in Divine healing and trust that I shall see the manifestation of healing in my life - even through surgical means.
Can I also mention here that my beloved father who passed away in 2004 on Father's Day weighed an average of 325 most of his life. My beautiful mother, who is now 71 and doesn't look her age at all, struggles  between 200 & 220 on the scale and has weighed even higher. Is obesity hereditary? I say yes! YES! My one and only brother has weighed as high as 390 and struggles between 230 & 250.
That about covers where I am. I am so hopeful and pray about all the positive changes this surgery will bring me. Thanks to all who take time to read my novella! I chose to write it in large print so you won't have to use your glasses!
