Michael Williams, M.D. Dr. Williams is the BEST! Highly regarded as one of the best surgeons in WLS, his care and compassion shines through. He's gentle and unassuming, understanding, listens well. I needed my surgery done laproscopically, for many reasons, not open, and he worked an extra hour and a half just to cut through all the lesions and scar tissue to make it happen! He did my son's surgery, too. Couldn't say enough about how wonderful he is. LOVE his nurse/assistant, too. She's great. Whole staff is so nice and personable. Risks of surgery were WELL defined. I DO wish there was more education prior to surgery (before just the day before) ... and that there was more aftercare.

Surgery is July 17! I can't believe it! My surgery date has been set! But it's more than 2 months away, and I'm apprehensive that my insurance will change their mind (AGAIN). But we're moving forward. AND my son has had a change of mind and heart and he's on board now, too! He has to lose 20 pounds, get his weight confirmed, then get surgery scheduled.
I'm excited! But the post-op seems so OVERWHELMING! What foods to buy, what I can and can't eat, how to eat, when, I mean juggling all that with working so many hours like I do ... eating fast food has been all I have time for (gee, guess that's why I'm so fat???). This lifestyle change does seem overwhelming. I'm just reading bits and pieces off people's blogs; I haven't gotten anything from the dr. or nutritionist yet, so don't really know what to expect.
I won't be paid for the 2-3 weeks off work post-surgery. I'M PRAYING SO HARD I'll be able to get it done laproscopically!! If Dr. Williams can get through all the scar tissue from previous hernia surgeries, C-secion and MRSA surgeries, it should go ok. If it's open, it could be 6-8 weeks recovery. When you live paycheck to paycheck and have to come up with almost $2,000 prior to the day of surgery, I don't know HOW I can be off work with no pay.
BUT IT'S ALL IN GOD'S HANDS!! :) I'm getting very anxious but I guess that's to be expected. I hope somebody out there will see my post and add me to their friend list and encourage me. I really could use someone to hold my hand to get through this ...

Don't worry so much about the post op food. It's not that much different than a regular diet. And you can still eat fast food if you HAVE too. You just only have to pay $1 for mashed potatoes and water instead of $5 for a whole meal!! Talk to you soon!!
