Surgeon Testimonial

Fernando Bonanni
Dr. B really went above and beyond the day of my surgery. He took the time to calm my husband (who at the time was a lot more nervous than I was) and answered any questions before I went off to sleep. He made sure to come out to the waiting room & inform my husband of any updates or he would have the nurse come out and keep him updated. He was very attentive during my stay at Abington and even called the following day to make sure I was still feeling ok. The whole entire experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend him.

I am 29 years old and living in the suburbs of Philadelphia.  I will find out in August when and what type of surgery I'll be having. I'll be having my surgery at Abington Hospital with Dr. Bonani.

3 month update ?
on May 13, 2013 11:11 pm

surgery was a success! (of course or I wouldn't be blogging on here).  It went extremely smooth and I was home the next day.  As of this morning I was at 239 (322 being my highest), it's hard to believe I'm close to losing 100lbs from my highest weight.

6 more weeks
on December 18, 2012 6:19 pm

With surgery just around the corner I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.  I am excited one moment and sad the next.

I'm slowly starting to see who my real friends are.  I was on FB tonight and one of my "close friends" wrote a indirect status in regards to individuals who use WLS as a way to lose weight.  I know that it was directed at me and I'm having a hard time understanding why in the world is she being this way?  I was hoping she would be more supportive but it looks like I'll be cutting ties with her soon.  She wants to lose 34lbs by my surgery date and individuals who use WLS are lazy. Ugh.

Other than THAT, everything is going well.   I have my pre op appt on the 31rst and then I'll have a few weeks left.  o.O

Cardio Clearance!
on September 24, 2012 3:05 pm
Ah such a relief to have gotten my cardio appt done and over with.  I am clear on that part :D  I just need to go through my endo next week before they submit for approval.  I'm so close to the end of my long journey!

First Follow up with Doc
on August 10, 2012 12:24 pm
I'm gonna make this a quick post as I have my daughter screaming "I wanna go to Chuck E Cheese!" ...
Went to see Dr. Bonanni yesterday and just as everyone said, he is the most down to earth and caring doc.   I do have to get a medical clearance from the cardio even though I have no current heart related issues but since my BMI is 50, it is required.  I am also getting a endo done first week in October.  He said he does not know when I'll be getting my surgery,  but he sent the request in for approval today so fingers crossed!  He also said that he's been making a longer ending so I have less side effects.  He said he and this one doc in New York are currently the only ones making this.  Anything for less side effects!  Hmm... I'm also getting a liver biopsy done since I have a fatty liver and that pretty much sums it up.  All in all, a good visit!

Undecided
on July 6, 2012 3:59 am
I did my ekg, psyc eval, abg, chest xray, nutritional consult and now I'm waiting to meet with the surgeon in roughly one more month *he took a vacation in the month of July* So his appointments are a little backed up.  Have I mentioned how impatient I am?

I would like to do the ds.   I like its long term effect, the probability that I won't regain, more weight loss ect, what I do not look forward to is the vitamin regimen.  Who said weight loss is an easy thing?  My second uption is the VS or rxy.  I will let my doctor decide that for me I think?

The NP told me the surgery is usually 3 months after my appointment with him which puts me at around November.  Anyways, I'm just rambling when I should get some sleep. /yawn

My Story

I was always the skinny kid.  When I hit puberty is when I started gaining weight.  One summer I remember gaining 60 lbs in a matter of months.  I never knew what caused it up until after I had my daughter.  The gyno suspected I had PCOS and sure enough, after a test it was confirmed.  I have tried L.A. Weight Loss and lost 30 lbs.  I got down to 230 lbs.  That did not last long, I gained even more weight and then was at 270.  In the summer of 2007 I went on a diet and exercise regimen and lost 40 + lbs.  I was down to 227 ish and a size 16.  That of course didn't last long and now I am at my highest weight ever!  315lbs.  I never thought of surgery as an option but I have never been this high and my doctor recommended weight loss surgery.  I gave it a second thought and have read up on it.  I will find out in August when my surgery will be (I'm thinking November or December) and cannot wait!
