Surgeon Testimonial

Thomas Lavin, M.D.
My first impression of him at the seminar was \"this man knows his stuff\". He was very informative. I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted him to perform my surgery.rnI met him at my pre-op appointment, he was very professional and answered my questions.rnHe encourages you to have your fills once a month. This is included in the fee. I barely remember seeing him after the surgery. I wish I would have been more awake when he came to see me.

Two Days Post Op
on September 21, 2007 11:15 am
Well, I made it.  Hallelujah!  I am feeling a little sore right now, especially my throat.  I guess that darn tube just rubbed me the wrong way!  I am feeling a little depressed today for some reason.  Questions keep popping up in my head such as "Why have I done this?" "What if I get sick in the future, then I'll have to go through Dr. Lavin first?", just so many freaking thoughts.  I am alone today, so that doesn' help.  I remember when I had my daughter three years ago.  I got that post depression that I used to kid people about not existing.  Darned if it doesn't!  I was crying for weeks.  Why?  Not a clue.
I guess changes are scary.  This is a big change to say the least as was having a baby.

I feel better now that I've cried a little.

Two days and counting...
on September 17, 2007 5:13 pm
Tomorrow is the dreaded day...nothing but clear liquids!  Wednesday is my surgery at Fairway Medical Center in Covington, LA.

I haven't dealt well at all with the pre op diet.  I just hope that it doesn't show when they "go in"!  I couldn't handle the Optifast.  It made me gag just looking at it.  So, I opted for replacements such as lean meats and other high protein shakes.  I did well with this, and lost the weight they advised me to lose.

So, here I go.  I'll post afterward!

Got a date!
on September 7, 2007 6:50 pm
I finally have a date!  September 19th.  I am so excited and yet nervous at the same time.  I know what I am experiencing is not unusual, but when facing your own mortality the reality begins to hit.  Meanwhile, I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about the lap band procedure and have made a few good friends along the way.  I am learning how to use the OH website to take full advantage of all of the resources it has to offer.  Right now I am on a pre-op diet.  My surgeon wants me to lose about 5 pounds, but I did that my first day on the diet.  I cannot stand the Optifast shakes that are on it, so I have kind of been doing my own thing.  Mostly low carb, low fat.  If it's just 5 pounds, why torture myself with these shakes?  One thing that totally sucks is that I am going to see Jonny Lang in New Orleans on the 29th of this month in New Orleans.  I can't remember the last time I ate in New Orleans.  Both of my parents were born and raised there and I've grown up eating Red Beans and Rice on Mondays and drippy Roast Beef poboys.  (I wonder how I got so fat?)
But, I am sure all I will get to do is sip liquids!  You know what?  I don't care.  It's so worth it.  I know that one day I will be able to eat again.
