Surgeon Testimonial

Guillermo Alvarez M.D.
Dr. Alvarez is a kind gentleman, like all the folks before me have said. He was kind enough to talk with my husband when he asked seventyzillion questions that I had already answered. Dr. A is gentle and definitely cares about the person - not you as a number.rnrnMy appreciation of Dr. A has only grown over time. Everything in the setup went smoothly and after I became lucid after surgery, I asked my husband if I had surgery yet!rnrnHis office staff, from Susan, his intake coordinator, to his office and hospital staff were all excellent. Even the nurses who are limited English speakers knew what you would need before you needed it. And not to worry - ouch is a universal word!rnrnThe thing I liked least about Dr. A is that since I live far from him, I will not be able to go back to him for rechecks as often as I would like - but - you can hardly hold that against HIM!rnrnHe is a stickler for aftercare - gives you in depth instructions on how to care for yourself, and what tests your home doctors should run. I have shared information with folks who had surgery in the states, and their doctors honestly dropped the ball and left them with no aftercare instructions. Dr. Alvarez and Susan make sure you understand and are always available if you have a question. rnrnHe addressed the risks of surgery seriously. No surgery is risk free - BUT IF YOU FOLLOW HIS AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS, you will be fine! rnrnI give Dr. A two snaps up in a Z formation! In English, I honestly wish he were nearer, except he would not be my primary care physician because he is only a bariatric guy!rnrnDr. Alvarez has BOTH amazing surgical competence and bedside manner.rnrnHe smells nice too! Snap Snap, Dr. Alvarez!
42 years old, 5 foot 6 inches (used to be 7!) and highest weight April before surgery was 267 pounds.  Happily married, blessedly beasted (dogs, cat and rodents) and blissfully working only 1 job!

I am excited for this new chance to work on me, get healthy and be the me I am, only with less cocoon, ya know?

I have been married 11 years April 4th, 2009, and since Januaryish - I havent been able to wear my wedding rings.  Boo.

Hopefully, by August, I will be weddedly ringed, once again.

My Story

Probably same ol, same - eh?   I have been overweight as long as I have had a sense of my body.  I am 42 at this point (2009) and am excited for a chance and a change.  I havent been able to sustain any weightloss for any amount of time.  Honestly, I had to work with being ashamed that I needed surgical ingtervention, but truth is truth.  I need help to sustain and this is the help I need!

Go me.

I am starting this journey (at this point) wearing 20w pants (you know, lycra jeans 20w) - 22 so they do not pinch me.   I wear my fat suit of a baggy shirt and the 2 pair of jeans that I have that will fit me.

Oy.

But - I have 39 days to go until the new me.

Yaay!  Yaay me.

I am excited and looking forward to ftting into (and then out of!!) all the clothes that I have gathered in the past -my "future clothes."

Future's coming fast baby!  Hang on tight!

Starting stats -
Highest weight  -  267 April 6, 2009.  (possibly a lot of water weight from all the crap we had to snack for spring fling, but hey - its there and I am counting it!!)
Surgery day weight -  May 4, 2009  244.8
