Surgeon Testimonial

Wade Barker, M.D.
First Impression: Is he married? He is extremely good looking. After getting past that I felt that Dr. B was very knowledgeable and straight to the point. He answered all my questions and was very helpful eventhough is office was packed. I felt that I was not rushed and for that moment I had his undivided attention. My cousin was a patient of his so he came to me highly recommended. His staff was also great! Dr. Barker is a great doctor with a world of knowledge when it comes to WLS. He and his staff have been extremely patient with me this whole time and I thank them for that b/c I know at times I was a pain. I was just so anxious to get my approval. They make sure that you get the approval. The staff is fully trained on ALL insurance requirements and I have never heard of a patient being denied from his office. They dot all the I's and cross all the T's. Dr. Barker is a GREAT surgeon, but his bedside manners are 0 to none. He did not meet with me before the surgery nor did I see him after the surgery. To be honest I didn't even see Dr. Barker in the OR before I had my "cocktail". I saw all of his staff, but no Dr. Barker. When I was in the OR and asked where he was, they told me he went to grab a bite to eat and then I was sleep. When I woke up no one from his staff was there to even tell me how the procedure went. I wish I would have choosen a Dr. that cared a little more about me than my money. The only thing good I have to say is that he is a good surgeon, but if you are looking for someone to inform you on how things went, I think you should look beyond Dr. Barker.

Wednesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

Hello OH!
on July 13, 2008 7:34 pm

Hello OH Fam. I haven't been here in a while, so I wanted to stop through and drop a few lines to let everyone know how I was doing. I have lost 66 lbs. and I am 14 away from my goal. I have had a slow journey, but well worth it. My weight loss has been VERY slow. I am wearing a 11/12 and some 9/10's. I want to be in a 9/10 comfortably. So, hopefully after the 14 lbs. lost I will be exactly where I want to be. Well family I have to go, but I will check back with you all in a few days. I am uploaded some recent photos of me so feel free to comment.

on February 29, 2008 8:54 pm

I haven't posted in a while, but I did want to keep you all posted on my weight loss journey. To me, this has been a really really slow process. I am 4 months out and hae only lost 47 lbs. I expected to be at my goal weight by now~or atleast by my birthday~NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! But I can't complain. God is Good! My surgery has been an experience in itself. I have not experienced any sickness or any type of nauseau~NOTHING! I have had a really great experience as far as that goes. Well, I will post pictures later. I really can't tell much of a difference, but my family and friends can. I can officially wear a size 12 in pants!!!!YEA!

11/08/2007 ~ 1 Week FollowUP
on November 9, 2007 11:32 am
Today was my 1 week followup and I have lost 10 lbs. WOW! I was excited, but then I got a little discouraged because I was expecting to lose atleast 20 lbs. I read here on OH that in the first week people tend to loose 20-30 lbs. I guess that is them and this is me. I just wanted to give my OH family a little bit of an update.

My Story

Hello, I am a 31 year old female with 3 children. I have a 12 year old son, 9 and 2 year old daughters. They are Matthew, Maiya and Morgan. I am happily married to my wonderful and loving husband, Sidney. Today I have decided to share my journey with you. Unlike most, I have not struggled with weight all my life. In fact as I child up to my early 20's I was somewhat underweight. It was not until after the birth of my son when I graduated into a size 9/10. My weight gain started over the past 3 years and I have not been able to control it since. I have gained about 30-40 lbs. a year since 2004. I am currently at my highest, 230 lbs. I am 5 feet 4 inches and my BMI is 39.5. I have asthma, hypertension, sleep apnea and depression. My mother is overweight and has a history of PE, pulmonary embolisms. My father is overweight and has type II diabetes. Both have HBP. My maternal aunt, passed away September 2006 of congestive heart failure. This is the day I decided that something had to be done about my weight. I have tried several diets, all with little to no success.

Since, I won't be able to wish you all a Happy Halloween (I will be in surgery)
Here it goes. LOL!
