Surgeon Testimonial

Roderick Tompkins M.D.,F.A.C.S.
Dr. Tompkins is all about business. He is straightforward, is excellent in answering questions, and has an aura about him that projects positivity and comfort toward his patients.rnrnHis office is extremely effective in helping patients navigated through the journey to surgery. They are easily accessible and are excellent at returning calls.rnrnDr. Tompkins is no doubt competent in his work. His bedside manner is very good. He seems to be a busy man and wish I had more time with him instead of nurses or aids......but I really didn't need the time with him. He is very likeable and is easy to talk to.rnrnI never once felt scared or uncomfortable.

Weight Gain
on May 8, 2012 9:09 pm
I had slacked off weighing in each day.  I am up to 141.  I have mixed feelings about this.....I feel better with a little weight on me but I don't want to start gaining more either.  I think I will increase my water intake.  Have recently picked up more exercising....and will start weighing every day.  145 is my max !

Merry Christmas
on December 25, 2011 5:42 pm
to me :)  Weighed in at 134 this morning.  Working the holiday and really don't dread it at all.  Visit with family went great...except got hit by a deer in TN on my way up :(  $5,700 in damages.  Thankful that the deer was the only fatality to report.

Almost Christmas
on December 9, 2011 8:54 pm
I am getting ready to visit my family in VA for an early Christmas next week.  I am so excited.  However, it comes with some challenges.  I will have lots of food temptations to overcome and several nasty comments from various family members.  I will have those that will tell me I look to skinny and sick and that I looked better when I was fat (those are also the same people who were quick to tell me how much weight I had gained since I last saw them before my WLS).  Will have some who act jealous and say that I act like I am better than them.....trying to realize that is their issue and not mine.

Still living in AL and loving it!  Weighed in at 133 this morning.  I expect to gain a few lbs of that back as I have been a little under the weather the past week.

Almost Christmas
on December 7, 2010 4:57 pm
I have definitely slacked on the posting the farther out of surgery that I get.
My weight is stable.  I stay between 137 and 142.
Looking forward to the holidays and seeing my family.  For the first time since surgery I feel confident and in control of my eating.  I have learned what makes me dump and it isn't worth it.  So all those treats aren't as tempting anymore!
And I always take dishes that are healthy for me  :)  Just in case everyone else's dishes are loaded with fat or sugar......

Happy Holidays!

HMMMM
on August 17, 2010 5:30 pm
Down to 135 the past 2 days.   Too much sweating?????  Am staying hydrated and eating as usual.   Doing LOTS of walking at work .... 5-6 miles in the hot humid weather.  Maybe that is it.  Trying not to lose anymore.

Feeling very lonely.   I have no social life here.  I have no friends yet.

Getting ready to send graduation announcements for him!

My Story

I was not an overweight child nor teenager.  I began gaining weight when I was in my mid-20's.  After college, I entered the work world, and was a single mother.   I had a lot of stress and didn't make time for myself to exercise or to eat properly.  In 10-years, I had went from 160 lbs. to 245 lbs.  I had dieted off and on for the past 10 years, never losing all I needed to and always gaining it back.

In the Spring of 2007, I decided to give myself one last chance to lose weight "normally".  I did cardio 4-5x's a week, and light weight training 3x's a week.  Lost 10 lbs. in 4 months.  I was so discouraged.  So much work, time, and dedication for 10lbs!?!?!?  I made the decision that WLS was the tool that I needed to have the healthy, energetic lifestyle that I crave.

I attended an Introductory Educational Seminar in Paintsville, KY.  I left Knowing that I had an answer.  I have decided to have an RNY procedure.  I absolutely can not wait!!!

I have already stocked up on protein mixes, Vegetable broth, baby foods,  tons of sugar free drink mixes, and SF fudgesicles.  I have also gotten Nioxin shampoo because I don't want to risk losing my hair!  Have been taking my regular daily vitamins and Biotin (for my hair again!).  I have been using skin firming lotions everyday for months.  I do not want to have a lot of the sagging skin.  Will cross that bridge when I come to it, but for now, I am trying to use preventative measures.

I honestly believe this surgery will help me live my life to the fullest.  I am eager to have more energy, be involved in a healthy lifestyle with more physical activity, and to not be embarassed to do all the things I love to do for fear of looking fat.

Tomorrow I should get my surgery date!!!!!
