My Story

Where do I start? As of today, I am 28 years old and I've been fat my entire life. Well, I entered the world at 6 lbs even, but it was all downhill from there. I can vaguely remember being on my first diet at 5 years old. My pediatrician suggested that my mom sign me up for Diet Workshop, a Weight Watchers-esque program that was held in Eastpoint Mall. Over the years, there were other diets. The worst was the Medifast program for teens that I was enrolled in when I was 12. Then there was Weight Watchers, which I did MANY times beginning when I was 15. I always lost weight when I dieted, that was never the problem. The problem was keeping the weight off.

I did manage to lose over 100 lbs between 2002 and 2003 and I did manage to maintain for a short time. But, the weight slowly crept back up and here I am now, 5 years later, and 150 lbs heavier. My decision to get weight loss surgery is many years in the making. I've thought about it for years, but it scared me, I heard so much bad press. I started doing my own research, but still couldn't decide whether it was right for me. Finally, I hit my breaking point. At 27, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure that had to be controlled with medicine. I had been married for 2 years and wanted a baby, but I knew at my weight it would be nearly impossible to concieve. I realized that if I didn't do something now, I would probably die an early death. So, here I am. A little anxious and nervous, but excited to start this new chapter of my life. Thankfully I have a wonderful husband, family, and friends who support my efforts 100%. I would love to meet new friends who understand the process. I don't know anyone that has had WLS, so I would love to find support for people who can relate.
