Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
BC (before children) I grew up athletic and loved sports, running, walking or riding my bicycle were my favorite passtimes. I climbed trees, rode horses, competed in baseball games, could eat anything without gaining weight. THEN AC (after children) what an immediate change, couldn't eat anything without gaining weight, pain everywhere (fibramalgia), became diabetic, lost 50 lbs gained 85 lbs, lost 85 lbs gained 100 lbs! Tried every diet ever advertised or MD recommended diet pill or over the counter diet pills, or drinking tons of H2O and eating salads before eating a meal, BUT I ALWAYS FELT HUNGRY! Unless I ate and ate and ate!

Hi Everybody, This is tannis, Terrie's sister. I talked to her earlier today. She is doing GREAT. The surgery went very well, the hernia is repaired and she is up walking. She will stay in the hospital for 3 days then go to her daughter's for the rest of the week. My wonderful brother in law took his vacation to take care of my sis and he is SO special. It is so hard being 2500 miles away from her but I know Jim is doing a good job. Terrie wanted me to post and let you guys know she is doing fine, and it feels WONDERFUL TO BE ON THE LOSER"S BENCH with everyone. Take care tannis

Tests Tests and more Tests
on May 28, 2008 8:35 pm
UCD Sacramento has a million (or 25 or so) tests that are required before you can even get an appointment. My PCP is great, saw her last week and she ordered all of the blood work, chest xray, EKG, ECG, Endoscopy and colonoscopy. I have passed the EKG and ECG already and next Tuesday June 3rd I will go for the consultation with the Gastroenterologist. I spoke to the UCD coordinator and she said they received my paperwork and sent it on to the surgeon to review and that I should call next week after my appointment and see how things were progressing if I do not receive an appointment postcard by then. I am getting excited it is getting closer and closer.

Finding the correct WLS providers
on May 28, 2008 8:21 pm
Well I have had a time - first I thought I needed to go to the Sutter Roseville Hospital and MD because that was my PCP's group so I called our insurance and I was told that Yes that Hospital and MD was part of their network so I printed out and filled out the paperwork for them - after a week I received a call from the coordinator and was told that no I needed to go the Mercy San Juan Hospital and their MD so I looked them up and found when they were having the new patient orientation and rushed down to the meeting and filled out their paperwork. Then the next day I called my insurance again and asked them to fax me the exact pages from our policy and guess what? I am supposed to go to their authorized Hospital of Excellance which is UCD Sacramento! I called them and found out the next orientation was that evening at 5:00 p.m. (it was 3:00 p.m.) so I rushed out the door and drove the 2 hours as fast as I could and barely made it on time. What a learning experience. I felt terrible filling out all of the paperwork and having to admit how many diets and diet pills I have been on in the last 25 years and I am still overweight. So much has happened in my life I could not hardly remember all of the hospitalizations and medical issues that I have had. I even had to call my sister and ask what year did I have what surgery or hospitalization. What a bad memory I have for things I do not want to remember. HE HE HE
