Plateau
on July 28, 2011 9:58 am
I have hit my first plateau in my preop diet.  I am not overly concerned because I know the reason.  I haven't been exercising this week.  It has been insanely hot here.  Was 108F yesterday with 33% humidity.  I was going to get in the pool after dary but it was still 99F at 10pm!!  I know this is pretty much an excuse, but I couldn't make myself do it.  I am settling into the diet pretty well.  I will have an official weight loss total after my appointment on Monday.  I am guessing that it has been around 20 pounds, but the weigh in at Dr Warnock's will make it official.  I have been working on saving up sick time.  I am hoping that I won't be off work for more than a week.  I only missed 4 days of work with my gall bladder surgery.

I promise to do better with exercise this weekend.  We are going to stay overnight in OKC on Saturday so I will be doing shopping and mall walking, and maybe strolling around Bricktown.  That should burn calories!

Closer to a Decision
on July 25, 2011 9:59 am
On Friday I had a sit down with my PCP, my husband and myself about my surgery options.  The surgeon has really been pushing a bypass, and my husband is not comfortable with this.  My PCP sent the referral for the lap band, and he still feels that is the best option for me.  I have heard a lot of failure stories, but I still feel that the band is the safest option to try.  If it doesn't work, then I can go for a more invasive surgery.   For a while I researched the Duodenal Switch, but there are no surgeons in Oklahoma who do this surgery.  I would have to go to Dallas.  I have done really well in the pre-op diet.  23 pounds lost so far.  I am more concerned about maintaining weight than I am with dramatic weight loss.  I would rather have a 60 pound weight loss and maintain it, than have a 110 pound weight loss and regain the weight in a year or two.  Next Monday I go back to the surgeon.  I want to have a list of my needs, questions and goals ready for him so that I won't be swayed to get the bypass.

My husband is dead set again me having a bypass.  I was going to take him to my next doctor's appointment to speak with the surgeon.  I am wondering now if that is a good idea.  He is really upset, and I don't want him to go off on the doctor.  My mind is going in a million different directions at once.  I just don't want to live the rest of my life fat.

Could Eat a Bus
on June 28, 2011 9:35 am
I am trying hard to stay with my pre-surgery weight loss program, but today has been hard.  Some days I am not all that hungry, but some days (like today) I am famished.  I have had a lot of people tell me that they didn't take their pre-surgery diet all that seriously.  I am really trying.  My exercise is going pretty well.  I don't think I am sweating for an hour, but I am keeping myself moving for an hour.  I know I am working it because I can feel it the next morning.  I don't know what to do about this hunger.

I am a little out of sorts because we had a 7am staff meeting this morning.  Bev is NOT a morning person.  \

Oh, and I have stopped watching television.  I can't handle the commercials.  Too many food ads.

Still rolling with the diet.
on June 21, 2011 7:50 am
I have finished my first week of the physician guided weight loss required by my insurance before surgery.  I have lost 7 pounds so far.  It makes me wonder if I can do it without surgery.  However, I know that dieting isn't my problem.  It is what happens when the diet is done.  I am never able to maintain a weight loss over time.  I have lost a large amount of weight before only to have it reappear after a year or so of "normal" eating.  I guess I would like to hear from some people who have managed to stay near their goal weight for a long period of time.  If would help me feel like I am moving in the right direction.  I always say that I won't let the pounds come back.  Then they come back and bring their friends :)
