Surgeon Testimonial

My surgeon is Dr. Jason Balette at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, The Woodlands, TX. This is a fairly new program, but I knew I was in very capable hands. So much so that I was perfectly comfortable with being the first RNY performed at that facility. Let me start by saying from the first meeting I knew that this was the surgeon for me. He is a very compassionate and caring person, and never have I felt rushed at any visit. His seminar was very informative and gives information on both the LapBand and RNY procedures. I was already working with another surgeon preparing for LapBand surgery, but I was so glad that I went to Dr. Balette's seminar. Not only did I leave there with some great information, but also I found that RNY was a better option for me personally. Though I will say that there was not pressure from Dr. Balette in either direction. He gives you the information and will answer any question you have to help you make the right INFORMED decision that is best for you. He took time going over the consents with me and making sure I new everything I could expect and all the risks for the procedure. The office staff are all amazing! I always feel my calls are important and are handled very promptly. His nurse and assistants have always answered my concerns quickly and let me know that my needs are important to them. I have enjoyed sharing my progress with all of them and sometimes I wonder who gets more excited by my progress....me or them? :) This whole experience has been great, and Dr. Balette has been there every step of the way. Although there were times I felt I might be having too many questions are concerns, he has always been there to answer them and not once have I ever felt that a single concern was not important to him. I feel that this surgery has not only changed my life, but more importantly SAVED my life. I cannot believe the energy level I have and how great I feel! Things have changed so much for my family, and I can now enjoy life with my two young children. I feel that I have Dr. Balette to thank for that and could not have picked a better surgeon!

Can't believe I forgot to post on my one year surgiversary!
on June 15, 2008 5:22 am
Well it is now two weeks past that and the mean scale moved  LOL!  So now I am closer to where I wanted to be at one year and I am hopeful that at one year and one month I will be able to say I made it.  But as of right now I am at 185lbs which means I have a BMI of 30.7.  Almost there.....at a BMI of 29.9 I will be in the overweight category....never to see obese there again.  I am now in a misses size 14 for the most part and since I was a womens 30-32 just one year ago that is a great accomplishment!!!!!

Hardest thing to do now is resist buying clothes  LOL!  I can get into clothes just off the rack ANYWEHERE and that is great!  But I am still get out of them so quickly so I am trying to resist buying too many.  It is ironic because I never bought clothes for myself.  Maybe a new outfit here and there but not much and now I am able to!  But if my clothes get baggy now they are gone right then.  I am not keeping my fat clthes anymore......I will NOT be needing them!

Been lots going on.....many of you know this already but a good friend of my daughter's passed away this week.  That has been tough as we went to her memorial on what would have bene her 9th birthday.  My daughter is doing ok though it gets tough at night and for 3 nights she has cried herself to sleep.  Her friend had been sick for two years (was diagnosed with cancer on her 7th birthday) and it became apparent recently that I needed to start tell dd about what to expect.  So I think it was not as hard as it could have been.  But then how much does a 9 year old understand death adn the passing of a friend.

I appreciate though that have sent kind words that are helping her through this.  She is also speding time with friends and together they will get through this.

But what I have noticed.  Stress triggers there BIG time!  So I have had to make an effort to remember to get in my protein first!!!!  Unfortunatly it appears that I can eat a bit more sugar that I could at first.  So I have to watch that too!

On a happy note I started a new job this week.  Some of you knew that I had put in for a promotion at work.  And I got it.  So this shoul dbe helping me with my hydration issues as I can have drinks at my desk and not spend the 12 hours fighting to get in my water and my protein all day.  Maybe that is why the scale moved!

Still have to get my one year surgiversary trip planned.  Will post the details once that happens!

Thank you to everyone that has been so supportive through all of this journey!

Donna
