Surgeon Testimonial

My surgeon is Dr. Jason Balette at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, The Woodlands, TX. This is a fairly new program, but I knew I was in very capable hands. So much so that I was perfectly comfortable with being the first RNY performed at that facility. Let me start by saying from the first meeting I knew that this was the surgeon for me. He is a very compassionate and caring person, and never have I felt rushed at any visit. His seminar was very informative and gives information on both the LapBand and RNY procedures. I was already working with another surgeon preparing for LapBand surgery, but I was so glad that I went to Dr. Balette's seminar. Not only did I leave there with some great information, but also I found that RNY was a better option for me personally. Though I will say that there was not pressure from Dr. Balette in either direction. He gives you the information and will answer any question you have to help you make the right INFORMED decision that is best for you. He took time going over the consents with me and making sure I new everything I could expect and all the risks for the procedure. The office staff are all amazing! I always feel my calls are important and are handled very promptly. His nurse and assistants have always answered my concerns quickly and let me know that my needs are important to them. I have enjoyed sharing my progress with all of them and sometimes I wonder who gets more excited by my progress....me or them? :) This whole experience has been great, and Dr. Balette has been there every step of the way. Although there were times I felt I might be having too many questions are concerns, he has always been there to answer them and not once have I ever felt that a single concern was not important to him. I feel that this surgery has not only changed my life, but more importantly SAVED my life. I cannot believe the energy level I have and how great I feel! Things have changed so much for my family, and I can now enjoy life with my two young children. I feel that I have Dr. Balette to thank for that and could not have picked a better surgeon!

Best Valentines Day Ever!!!
on February 14, 2008 7:51 pm
One I will remember forever....my daughter called me skinny today.  I had picked the kids up from the sitter and as E went out the door I managed to get behind it.  B went out and flung the door open so I was pinned against the wall and said " I am getting squished"  E says "B, mom may be skinny but you can still squish her with the door"  She thinks I am skinny!!!  Wow can't believe it!!!!!

Have not posted in awhile.  I do have 8 month pics guess I better post as it is almost time for 9 month pics.  Wow 9 months!!  I had another surgery (hysterectomy) on Jan 2nd so I have nto been able to do much or excercise or anythign for 6 weeks.  Can't wait to start back with that.  I have been off work but go back next week.  Ready to get back to routine and away from the carbs.

7 Months since surgery and finally down 100lbs!!
on January 1, 2008 11:16 pm
Yep I made it!  Down 100 lbs for a current weight of 218!  This has been amazing.  I can honestly say it is getting easier.  My pouch seems much less grumpy now....not so irritable which is nice.

We had a wonderful Holiday and you know what....I did not miss food though I did have to work at making good food choices.  The same triggers are still there and something I will have to work on forever!!!!

New Years was nice!  We had some friends over and had a blast!  I have included a picture of our family on New Year's Eve.  first family photo in years.

I am moving on to the next chapter in my life and will be having a Hysterectomy in the am.  So I am not sure what taking it easy for awhile will do to my weight loss.  However I will at least have the time to focus on my protein and water intake!!!!

Thank you to all my family and friends for your support and of couse for the support of my OH family.  I could not do it with out you most days!!!

Happy New Year!!!

Ok, I finally got the pictures updated!!  and this time I stitched pre op, 3 month and 6 month together and I can really see the difference!  I decided that I needed to recheck my measurments to see how much it has changed.

I have lost:

Chest 14 inches
Upper Arms 3 1/2 inches
Abdomen 10 inches
Hips 12 inches
Thigh 6 inches
Calf 4 inches

Wow!  I feel great and LOVE this surgery!!!  6 months.....can't wait to see what the difference is in the next 6 months!

5 months post op yesterday!
on October 30, 2007 3:24 pm
That's right I was 5 months post op yesterday!!!  Surgery Day weight......318lbs and yesterday 240lbs for a total loss so far of 78lbs!!!  We went camping this weekend and I even went horseback riding!!!  I could keep up with everyone walking around and I had a great time!!!!  So much easier to camp 78lbs lighter as well! Oh, and the best part.  I started at a BMI of 52.9 which is Super Morbid Obese, followed by Extremely Obese and I am currently 39.9 which is just plain Obese!  Whoo hooo!  So I am getting there!

Things have been going well.  I have to say it does get easier!!!!  Funny thing is I tried to write a check and the clerk would not take it......said that wasnot me on my drivers license!!!  Ha! Ha!  It was great!!!  Inconvienent but great!

We are going to an Amusement Park next month.  It will be the first time I am able to ride rides with the kids EVERY!!! Very exciting!
