3 Months & 3 Weeks Post OP Plus a 5k
on October 7, 2012 9:55 pm

Okay! So it has been a while since I last posted. I have been busy and adjusting to life after surgery. I periodically read post on the lightweight forum, which I enjoy much better than the other forums. In my last post, I was just beginning my exercise regiment. I have been exercising since my 8th day post OP. I decided that I was not going to allow my pouch to do all the work and I was going to take accountability for my own success and use the pouch for what it was designed for, a tool. I exercise 5-6 times a week 3-4 miles each work out. I started out walking, then I increased to power walking now I am jogging. Yes you heard me jogging LOL! I also joined Black Girls Run. I work out with them (2) days a week. BTW the group is a nationwide group and is open to all races/nationalities. The mission is to promote healthiness among Black Women. Check out the website www.blackgirlsrun.com. Here is the kicker, I did my 1st 5k on this past Saturday. Whoever would have thunk LOL! I practically ran the entire race except for about 200 meters. I finished with a bang and my time was 54 minutes. God is Awesome! I prayed and asked God prior to surgery for supernatural healing and weight loss and He has done exactly that, BUT faith without works is dead. I am so grateful for what God is doing my life. As of my last weigh-in I have lost a total of 55 pounds (total). My personal weight loss goal is 150 and ultimate goal is 140. So I have about 30 lbs to go to reach my goal. If I lose more weight that is fine too LOL! I am not going to stop it. I only get on the scale once a month. Like I said in a previous post, I refuse to allow the scale to dictate my journey/success. I have uploaded updated pics on my page. I am now working towards my next 5K (Yeah)! I am not a veteran, but if anyone have any questions or need encouragement feel free to reach out. #TeamMeNOTu  #anotherButGodmoment

2 Weeks Post -Op & 3.55 Miles
on June 28, 2012 11:33 am

Ok! So Tuesday 6/26 was my 2-week post-op point and I feel great! I have no complaints what so ever. God has been awesome in my healing process. I walk around 2 to 3 miles a day (6) days a week. Wednesday 6/27, I walked 3.34 miles and I felt wonderful. I was able to walk 3 miles prior to surgery and I glad  that my "Mojo" is back LOL! I am excited how my pouch loves strawberries and watermelon (I just love it). I had to scale back on the salmon due to the thickness, but my pouch really loves Tilapia. I am getting more and more water in each day. I have not got on the scale as I refuse to allow the scale to control my journey. I have decided to get on the scale the last day of every month. I am so grateful for this awesome opportunity to have a tool to help me lose weight lose weight. I don't take what God has given me lightly. I have decided not  to let the pouch do all the work during this "honeymoon period". To much is given much is required. Stay Tuned!

1.55 Miles 1 week Post-Op Awesome!
on June 28, 2012 11:30 am
OK! So I had RYN on 6/12 and everything went GREAT! My only discomfort was the severe pain from gas after surgery. I thought Jason was stabbing me in my stomach. Once that pain was under control I was good. I went home the next day feeling fine. As like everyone else, I was on liquids (only). I was walking going to store etc. I went to my 1wk pre-op and my surgeon said I was doing excellent. He put me soft foods (thank God) so tired of protein shakes. Tolerated the soft seafood last night very well and soft scrambled egg this morning. Also got in 2 cups of water thus far. The big highlight was I was able to walk 1.55 miles in about 30min. That is AWESOME having had major surgery a week ago. I give all thanks to God. BTW my doctor release me to exercise. The funny thing is I could easily walk 3 miles before surgery, but I know I will work up to that. All is well and thanking GOD. BTW over all weight loss is around 21lbs. (Surgeon said I am on track).

Twas The Night Before WLS!
on June 11, 2012 5:55 pm
Well the day has finally arrived. I am at total peace (Thank God)! I thought I would just faint from the liquid diet, but I made it. The lifestyle change may not be so hard. Once you change your attitude. It is 90% mental and 10% effort. I just had my last protein shake for the night until after surgery. I was very amazed of the weight lost during the liquid phase. I have lost about 17lbs. Which is great and it gave me a jump start. Well I just took my shower with the special soap from the hospital, which I will have to repeat in the morning. Well I am about to make tomorrow's dinner for my family since I will be out of pocket LOL! I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I will try to blog after surgery tomorrow. Good night!

My Story

My story is about the same as everyone else (nothing unique) LOL! I am 39 1/2 years old and I am about 230 lbs/5ft. I am healthy no health challenges (Just Fat) LOL. I have struggled with weight since Senior High School. I weighed about 135-140 lbs while in HS. I was able to manage my weight by running track and cheerleading. Once I graduated and went off to college that’s when the struggle really began. I was about 140lbs when I found I was pregnant in  and went off to college go figure I got pregnant (guess I had too much fun) . My highest weight during the pregnancy was 180lbs. After giving birth, my weight dropped to around 150lbs. Well life kicked in and (2) more children  came and my highest weight after my 3rd and final child (LOL) was 256lbs. At that point I decided  to try Atkins and did very well. I lost around 65lbs in about 4 months. My weight hung out around 175-180lbs. After 2007, I begin to battle with weight. It was a battle I was obviously losing (LOL). The battle was really  fierce this time. The weight was coming way faster than I could get it off. I decided about 4 months ago  that I needed some help/reinforcement LOL. I have always been against WLS. I made an appointment w/ Dr. Melkonian and after the awesome consultation, I knew that Gastric Bypass was for me. I begin my process in April 2012. As of today, I have completed my Psy. Eval, Nut. Appointment and my  Medical Records were received  today. I was told by the doctor’s office that my file is being sent to my surgeon for review and off the Ins. Co. for approval. I am excited and ready to get this done! Stay tuned!
