Surgeon Testimonial

Dirk I Rodriguez, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Rod is kind, caring and direct. Several members of his staff are WLS patients. The staff are kind, knowledgeable and take a genuine interest in your success. I do not have any complaints about him, although some patients do not like his bold, direct approach. I know this aspect of his personality was a blessing when I developed post op complications. I knew that he would see to my emergent needs. Many times he said to me,\"listen to me..you need to hear this.\" I didn't like that, and thought I was listening but he knew. I am now 9 months after surgery and I feel that he still cares about my success . I have had many routine post op visits. His Center of Excellance strictly tracks our nutriition journals. This journal not only focuses on what I ate, but how I feel before and after eating. Our support group meets monthly. The meeting topics vary from general discussion, exercises, nutrition, plastic surgeon visits and most important, allowing the patients to suggest the topics. The topic of risks are discussed from the very beginning at the information session. Then, we are given a detailed list of complications in our \"BOOK\" and in the surgical consent. As his patient, and as a nurse, both his surgical competence and beside manner are great. He was able to talk to my dgtr( who has no medical knowledge and dislikes hospitals) in a way that she understood what was happening to me and how he was going to treat it.

on April 3, 2013 11:00 pm

wow,i have regained so much wt. this past year. I am feeling so lost and defeated.i injured my back at work, and have frequent flare ups.  i know what i should do, but can't seem to do it.  It is such a long road back. and this time I have no doctor and no support grup.

my story
I used to think my problems with wt. began when i had my children until my mother told me I was worried and dieting in my preteens.  I have yo-yo'd my weight since 1978.  My doc has wanted me to have the surgery in 1999, but I resisted and then spent many years researching.  My wt is now at 300lbs and I am 5'8.5". wearing a LOOSE SIZE 30.  I have done all the typical diet with some success, but more failures.

I am now divorced, longer now than when I was married...... I have 2 grown  daughters 29 and 27 yrs old; 2 grandson's 7,2. . I  went back to college after my divorce and became a registered nurse.

I had the RNY on Sept.4,2007.  I was in the hospital for 22days. Yes, I would do the surgery and the complications all over again to feel as good as I feel today.

My Story

Well, it has been almost 10 months since my surgeries.  I have lost 110 lbs. give or take 5lbs- I retain fluid in the summer.  I have dropped 9 sizes.  I have gained so much...I feel so much better, more energetic, able to walk easier and faster.  I am more confident and feel that I am living life instead of just existing.  I have no problems getting in my water and protein but I do struggle with exercising, but I am doing it anyway.... I day at a time.  Would I do it again?  Most definately.
