Surgeon Testimonial

Rex E. Luttrell M.D.
I first met Dr. Luttrell when my grandmother was in the hospital for gall bladder surgery. My family appreciated how well he treated my grandma and his bedside manners were exceptional. When I started looking into having bariatric surgery, I did alot of research on the RNY but as time went on I changed my mind and the Lap-Band seemed to fit my lifestyle. So, when I started my research on the Lap-Band procedure and Dr. Luttrell's name came up I was kind of excited. I scheduled my seminar and my first impression of Dr. Luttrell is that he was honest and caring. His office staff (Chyrl and Erin) have been the best support, always readily available, very informantive, and dealt with my 'millions of questions' with patience and understanding.rnrnI'll let you know how I feel regarding the surgery and aftercare next month.

Down 50# PLUS
on November 13, 2008 8:55 am
Well, I am just 1 week shy of 8 months post-op AND I'm down 53#!

I'm also going today to get an UN-Fill.  Since my last fill, I'm spitting up after every meal/snack/drink for 2 hours and I can't deal with it anymore.  I've lost weight fairly fast but I only have 26 more pounds to go till goal and I'm just going to have to go at it at a slower pace and with less restriction from my band!

I'll try to post some pictures very soon (I just have to download them from my camera at home).

41 # DOWN!
on September 26, 2008 12:04 pm
6 months out and I'm 41 pounds down...

It is going slow, but I've read somewhere that it's good to lose sloly and you won't have as much sag.  I really don't know about all that but I guess I'll find out eventually.  But, the point is that I've lost 41 and only have 14 pounds to reach my 1st goal for myself.

Happy Mother's Day!

Important News:  I'm down 25#!  Since my 2nd fill, I've already lost 5# in 4 short days.  This fill has been a tight one, I'm eating smaller amounts and I'm staying fuller longer.  I'm a 1/3 of my weight loss down...

My Story

My First Entry

Hi, my name is Jamie and my story is no different from anyone else’s. I love to eat and after having 2 children, several life-altering relationships, and a few stressful life events...I've eaten my way to 250 pounds!

I was never overweight as a child/teen; I was active in sports but learned very bad eating habits.  After I started working I started gaining 10 lbs here 15 lbs there.  Like most of us, I have dieted and lost, but it always come back, and then some.  I have been more on than off.  I’ve been an avid dieter for most of my adult life. I have lost weight many times but never more than 40lbs at a time.

I started looking into gastric by-pass surgery 3 years ago, even got approved and then about 2 months before the scheduled surgery I chickened out; at the time, the risks scared me!  I then spent the next 6 months on a popular fad diet.  Lost weight but within the next year I’ve gained it all back plus some!  I started looking at Lap Band less than a year ago. Went to my PCP and he said that he believed I would be a great candidate for the Lap-Band surgery.

Back in November ’07, I went to the Dr. Luttrell’s lecture/seminar and left with the patient package and immediately tackled my insurance company inundating them with loads of questions regarding coverage.   When I went in for my 1st appointment in January I was ready to find out when I could schedule my surgery, I was prepared for 4 to 6 months out but he said about 4 to 6 weeks. My insurance company requires that I meet the doctor's requirements and be a medical necessity. I DO!

I have also checked with my boss to see about scheduling time off. They were great!  And, instead of waiting 4 to 6 months, my surgery is scheduled in 4 weeks!  I’ve spent the last 7 years putting myself through undergrad school and will graduate this May (’08) with my bachelor’s degree and I’ve decided that I have to do this for myself, kind of like a graduation present to myself!  YIPPEE!  So that is where I stand.
